1983 Big Block Monte Slow Build

Got that switch in today and printed off a fuse box legend and a C100 pinout, but it's from Texas82GP 's thread and is diesel based, but does give me the 3 possible pins it could be based on options. I'll shoot it back to the fuse to make sure I have the correct wire. Got to thinking though, this motor has always been carb'd and may already have that same switch sitting unused. That'd be worth a chuckle, finding all that factory correct goodness there unused in favor of vampire taps and bare wire twisted together. Now my struggle is finding a stack of cheap 1/2" ID washers .150" thick to get behind those bearing plates.

Is that bundle of cut off wires you are holding coming out of the drivers side fuse box or the passenger side under the HVAC?

I assume it's the fuse box?

If so, 83 is the transition year between early and late. I think it's late.

The printed out version is a 84-87 GN, cut out the powermaster and EFI related stuff and it's the same as what you need.

Bottom hand sketch is early 78-82 maybe 83.

Sorry, I meant to get back to you sooner. Take a closer look at those two diagrams in the thread linked above. The first one, from my 1982 GP/Bonneville shop manual is not diesel specific. Note that it references glow plugs and choke heater. If it's a diesel car it has some of the wires and if it is a gas car it has others. All are shown on the diagram. The second diagram is from my 1982 Chevrolet B/G shop manual. It appears to be gasoline only. It shows the V8 and the V6. The question is, as posed by 81cutlass, is 1983 the same as 1982?

The harness in question is not coming from the passenger side, rather from C100. I was expecting to see CCC wiring, but duh that would come from the (non-existent) ECM on the passenger side. Driver's side is gonna all be for the dash, lights, etc.

As far as early vs late goes, did GM transition everything in 83 or just bits and pieces? Reason I ask is because from what I can tell by the frame extensions for the trans cross member, I have an early 83 car as it was (and still is) a 3 speed. Does anything on here give an indication?

Most straight forward way to validate is pull the wiper motor out and remove the m7 head hardness retaining bolt and just pull the harness out.

If it looks like the top diagram i posted its a 84-87
If it looks like the bottom hand sketch (Arizona shape) it's 78-82

I haven't had clarification if 83 is early or late, or if its a transition.
 
Finally got back at this today, goal was to get it back to the hangar. That didn't happen. I started with the washer stack behind the bearing plates, seems .150" was the correct stack up. I had some regular washers at around .100" each and the fender washers at .050" a pop, had to buzz the edge off to get them in.

Put the wheels back on, realized I forgot the center caps, remove/reinstall with caps, then see the caliper bolts on the bench and sneak those in. I was on a roll.

Next I turned my sights to the choke wiring. This started out great. I pulled the choke fuse and found this.

Not surprising with that harness chopped. Went out and probed the previously dead harness and immediately found the brown choke wire. Cool, now to get the switch in. Thought there'd be a 1/8" NPT plug behind the intake like the 350 and I was wrong. Up above the filter or lower front where the cluster gets its pickup. Both are 1/4" NPT. F me, I didn't bring any adapters. I installed my oil temp gauge sender above the filter on my dually with it on the ground and it was an @$spain, so it stayed on the lift for that alone. Plus a couple other things I was gonna write off to get the car off the lift. I also greased all the zerks I could reach. I got one ball joint deep last time when I ran out of grease. Of course the gun was a pain to get going again, but I got it all sans the inner bushings on the front LCAs. Now I could finally have all 4 wheels back on. Also got a pair of thick, square Unistrut style washers on the driver's side of the trans mount with longer bolts to match. I also realized today that I've had the trans full for a week or better and not a single drop out of the car so I must have addressed the leak. Couple questions: are these the nut plates for the seat belts?

It was also clear that I had too many tools to bring back in one haul with 2 kids hogging up the back seat. And I still want to rough in some sort of front alignment. Good thing the weather is looking nice this week. His yard is still a mess, gonna be interesting getting out with this open diff if it doesn't finish melting. I might borrow an open deck trailer to haul it back with. Could swing by the car wash that way too.
 
Yes, those are for the seat belts. Not a crossmember, just a sheet metal "floor brace". My driveshaft loop is mounted there.
 
Crap, that is the back seat tub isn't it? Was hoping it was front seat belt fasteners. I'm not sure what those bolted to? I have 2 sets of seatbelt receptacles and bucket seats on bench mounts in a ghetto fashion. Hoping whatever they go to is still on the car. And that driveshaft loop deal is like the one on my Camaro. Good to know these had them too.
