I installed mine years ago on the positive side and if I remember correctly I followed the NHRA rule book back when I installed it.
If you are installing this for the sole purpose of being a "kill switch" only while it is parked then the negative side should work fine.

I wouldn't put the switch in the wheel well. Too much water, dirt, potential for problems. I would look at the rear of the spare tire well or like when I had one on my 83 I had a bracket mounted to the aluminum rear bumper support on the right side of the car. Both of those options are better alternatives to the spare tire well.

I also have seen a few Monte guys run them in the passenger side reverse light.

Well finally got the battery in the trunk and kill switch wires up. Made a little bracket at work to mount it. I also rerouted the wires up front got it looking a little neater.

Worked on the rear end a little today adjusted the upper control arms. Looks a lot better than it did plenty of tire clearance now. Springs setting in better too.

I got the fuel line ran today. Put plugs and wires on the motor. Set my old carb on it for the time being. Have to install fuel pump and bleed brakes. I also have to figure out what I am going to do about the #5 plug to close to headers. I guess I get some short plugs for it. Starting to look like a car again.
