Thanks brutha!

This is why I don't want to put the 20th Aero sticker on the nose emblem

This is in great shape and it is the only Olds Rocket up front. All I need to do is polish it

You can always do it to a faded one. But yeah, if I had a nice rocket up front, I'd go with that, too.

Ya, I think I am just gonna leave the rocket
(texting with Mike M. right now)

I'd stick with the '68 theme like #001, Doc designed both the '68 and '88 H/Os and used the '68 emblem on the decklid as a tribute for the 20th Anniversary

The bottom of the emblem for 81-86 Cutlass is 15/16" above the first "ledge" of the bumper cover. If you wanted, since the emblem never was there on an 88 in the first place, just get some 1" masking tape and run it across for alignment and call it a day. Only someone like me would probably notice or even care anyway.

It's JUST a BCH short of 2" from the edge of where the bumper cover bends.

Another option for left/right alignment for your 88 is to locate the gap between the LH cornering light and the headlamp. Measure in about 1/8" inward from the cornering lamp and then go straight down and that's where the "e" ends in "Oldsmobile".

Those emblems you have are both 85-up trunklid emblems, officially. The difference is they're not as pronounced as the 84-back Oldsmobile trunk emblems. Nor do they have the solid backing for the "m". The 84-back trunklid and front bumper emblems are essentially the same excep the front emblems mount with the pegs and not adhesive. If you want to nail down the front bumper emblem look, you would need to get the adhesive backed 84-back trunklid emblem GM p/n 555735.

Here's where you can use the side marker lamp to gage the end of the emblem. Can't go by the 87 442 decal because although the 442 part is the exact same size as the earlier decals, the Oldsmobile underneath is slightly smaller than the emblem.

Although 88s didn't have an emblem on the bumper cover, didn't they get them on the header panel like the non-442 1987s did?

Yes. This is true. GM p/n 22519370. In fact, NO euro-nose Cutlass G47 got a front bumper Oldsmobile emblem from the factory, other than the 442 decal version. It was chromed pot metal, slightly slanted to match the hood line, and adhesive backed. Also used on the 86 G69 4-door and 85 Ciera.

Olds punched holes for the front emblem on the 81-86 Cutlass G47 front bumper covers. So every G47 Olds in those years had the pin style chrome/painted plastic Oldsmobile front bumper emblem.

Oooh! That's where it should go then. I went searching through all of my archived stuff on Google Drive from old computers and I found actual pics from 2004. Here is the silver car before anything was done to it. It doesn't have the Oldsmobile badge on the header panel. I am guessing repaint?
