I think someone confused the ElCo with the S-10. The only V6s ever installed in G-body cars are the 90 degree ones (Buick and Chevy).

The Wikipedia entry for the 78-88 ElCo has a number of factual errors, but the engine isn't one of them.

The El Camino shared the same engine combinations as the Malibu. For V6s, the 200, the 229 and later the 263 (4.3) in Chevrolet. The Buick 3.8 was the "Corporate V6" for the GM brand and that motor (3.8) found it's way into El Caminos as well.
