So how many of the Michigan guys are going to the IHRA Div. Finals over at US 131 next week Sept. 11-14. Will be their with the guys from WIR as usual driving the silver GMC truck.

Greetings Dan & all: A short history lesson, all blocks before 1967 were 2 bolt blocks & most were smaller main journals until 1968. And we spun many of those up to 7000 RPM. Granted they had less stroke 3.25" (327") or less. I worked in a engine-industrial machine shop during the early 70's. We were one of the few places that aligned bored & balanced. We also turned cranks, resurfaced decks & complete head work. Anyway when a chevy came in with a cracked cap (caps), I don't remember any that weren't cracked through the first (only) bolt hole. So the boss concluded that 2 or 4 bolts, didn't much matter. the resister (locating saddle) was more important. And if you reach 450 gross HP consider splayed tool steel caps. I broke two caps on a my second 406 3.75" stroke at 45,000 miles. It was dynoed at 433 HP & 460 Lbs ft of torque. So when I built my 3rd 406 I went with splayed tool steel caps & it is still do'ing fine at 12,000 miles. Bob Jr..

im from st. clair shores and i think im gonna go with a 244/244 comp cam with aluminum heads, edlbrock intake and holly 4barrel

Before you run off and start buying parts you need to consider what you are going to use the car for and what your expectations are. That cam you mentioned is going to need some compression, around a 3000 stall convertor, and some gears in the back. Cylinder head runner size needs to be considered along with the intake and carb. If you plan on making power that 7.5 won't take it.

my boss is teching me valvetrain geometry and i have plans to by a 3000 or a 2800 converter. its gonna be a street car to mess around in. i would like to get flat top pistons since im sure mine are dished but a set of heads can decide weather i need that or not because they could chnge my compression if they are decked but the cam is a 2500-6000 i beileve and i have taken the intake and carb into consideration as well i would like to get the edlbrock tourque 2 intake and a holly double pumper carb

Go to the Comps Cam site and in their learning center under tech info and go to Valve Train Geometry - great info. Being on a budget I would seriously consider vortex heads - best bang for the buck. For what you are going stay around a 180 runner. I'm partial to the Edelbrock Performer RPM - It will give you more bottom end and still perform @ 6500. Like I said earlier you might be better off building another engine and then swapping. You could even sell yours off. I have a lot of parts and probably give you a good deal on what ever you need. Here is a set of forged TRW
flat tops with some X rods, same ones I run and I'm pulling over 450 HP W/ iron 2.02 Chevy heads.
