20 years of GBodyForum? What's Next?

20 years?!?!?!? Well, that makes me feel old. Apparently I've been a member since 2010, which makes sense, that's when I got my '83 Cutlass 4 door that I used as a daily driver for a while.

I know I don't check in here as often as I should and my Monte Carlo is sitting in project car purgatory at a friend's house because I don't have anywhere to keep it where I'm currently living but I've spent a lot of time here over the years and it's one of the best forums and overall car enthusiast gathering places I've ever seen.

I don't really have any revolutionary ideas for "what's next" but I still tell people about the site and invite them to join. Actually a couple of weeks ago, I had to take a trailer to the shop at work to get a tire replaced and as I was talking to the technician the subject of G bodies came up. He was telling me about how he had a Monte Carlo that had been in a crash and was trying to figure out the best way to repair it. I told him, I'm not really the guy to ask but I know where you can find several people who are very knowledgeable on the subject. I showed him the site and then texted him the link and encouraged him to join.

As far as a particular company buying forums and running them into the ground, I didn't know that was a problem until I read this thread but after just a few minutes of research it was pretty obvious that it's become a problem. This being a privately owned site is one of the best things about it.

I for sure don't want the forum to go away, which hopefully that doesn't happen. I think things might improve a bit because kids like my son are starting to build Gbodys. My son has his Cutlass all finished and knows several others that have been given them by their parents. So I think they are still out there and the popularity will continue to climb as cars like Chevelle's etc continue to go up in value way beyond the reach of average mortals. I was lingering around the forum in '06-09 before i finally made an account, or remade one i cant remember. But i used all the information i could for my first Gbody, my 79 El Camino SS. The value of having a centralized site devoted to the platform is way better than the social media variety in my opinion. I think we just need to get more active in our efforts, even though many of us are very spread apart.

I’ve been on this forum for 12 yrs now… where did all that time go!? I’ve owned my current G for 13 yrs and been around them all my life.. as many said prior I’d hate to see the forum change or just fade away but there is still many of us old heads lingering around. Social media has definitely changed the forums for the worse, I used to surf this one, real olds power and Cummins forum all the time. Tons of knowledge on all those sites. I couldn’t even begin to tally up the hours I have spent reading threads on forums.
