Hey everyone,

My sister-in-law has a 1978 El Camino with the 350 engine that’s been sitting in the driveway for 21 years. I recently decided to take a closer look at the wiring, and honestly, it’s a bit of a mess.

After removing the electrical tape, I found the situation to be worse than I expected. There are a lot of wires that have been cut, spliced, or are barely holding on by a strand or two. The good news? It looks like the light circuit hasn’t been tampered with, so at least that part is intact!

Everything else under the hood is a complete rewire job.

Any advice on sourcing the right connectors or tips for making the job easier would be greatly appreciated.

Here's what I'm basing my repairs on.

My first question would be on the charging system. Two 12g red wires? Thanks in advance!

the red wire draped all over is not factory looks like it starts from the battery where does it go ? and a black wire also not factory where does it start and go ? from the battery to alternator maybe ..does the car start

Aftermarket wire jobs are not all bad as long as there well thought out and positioned carefully with care taken for heat and protection from friction or Sharpe edges .it might be good to start with some plastic loom. Could be the 2 wires could be going to the battery to avoid the out of site routes on old gm cars . That use the battery starter terminal to tie charge and acc to battery B+ ( cable) if your not peticular about loom a peice of 5/16 gas or line or vacume line is feasible to keep wires ( insulation) working here again not oem but basically sound rat rod advice...next in line cable ties and a couple of those rubber coated wire loops you can hold a wire or two out of harms way lol. Okay that's as much as I can add currently some solder ( kestor?)and shrink tube or tape
