I personally would pay much, much less with a missing tag and suspicious ground off serial number. What does the governor look like? Does the torque converter have D5 stamped all around the edge? Those are sure signs that it is the special GN trans.

I agree with what the other posters said...find someone who knows the th2004R inside out. It’s a good OD trans with good gear spacing. My was built by a shop in Lakewood NJ and withstands abuse from my 383 easily. Chirps the tires going into all gears nicely. Rebuilt with a manual valve body. My builder said that the addressing the stock pump limitations is very important too.

The one I got with the MC SS transmission has D5 stamped on it and is currently in the car, the one thats stamped 5 all around is from the one I got today with the BR3 valve body, seems strange, they might have used the D5 on more than one transmission?

Those both look right. Yes, the Monte SS, Hurst/Olds, 442 and GN all use the D5 converter.

I'm getting it installed tomorrow, since the transmission's been sitting 25 years Im going to get it flushed, new 4th gear switch and solenoid, I'll use the 5 stamped converter, it came with the transmission and I have no reason to believe I didn't get what I payed for. The missing tag and the blanked serial had me worried but I feel good about it and will know very shortly
