Your service vehicle light, abs light, and trac off light are all due to a bad Wheel speed sensor. You will need to change out the whole hub to fix it. They built the sensor into the hub bearing. I had to do both twice on my alero.

My Sister's Grand AM has all those lights come on randomly... Would that cause it as well?? Sorry to thread hijack dream on mcss but it sounded familiar when you posted that.. 8) Can you shut the auto lock feature off? It would happen to me all the time.. 😳

Well, not much of an update today. All I did was remove the trans lines but that's about it. WHAT A PAIN IN THE *ss doing them. They were seized on there like a m-f-er and I ended up rounding off the lower line but I did manage to get them out of there. The new ones should be in on monday. Also got $220 bucks from my moms bf as the project budget! Woohoo!! So already I spent 40 online buying the cooler lines and have to spend another 50 for the half shaft. The rest is for the minor stuff. Thats all I got for today folks, I'll keep you guys posted if I get anything else done.

Hey guys I got a problem with the front steering that I was hoping you guys could help me diagnose. Whenever you turn the steering wheel (which doesn't lock at all) any direction, there's a clicking noise that comes from the front end. I think it comes from both sides by the strut towers. Anyways I haven't pinpointed it yet but I'm thinking it's either bad cv joints or the struts themselves. I'm having my mom bring her stethoscope home tomorrow so I should be able to figure out what it is, but in the mean time what do you guys think? Oh and btw the new trans lines come in tomorrow so I'll be able to drive it 🙂 .

strut mounts or maybe sway bar end links. cv joints usually wont make any noise unless you're driving and turning. are you sure its coming from the front end and not just the intermediate shaft (extremely common)

not sure exactly, but i was underneath the passenger side trying to get the boot back on and when i turned the wheel manually it sounded like it was coming from the strut but like i said im not sure. when i get the stethoscope tomorrow ill be able to confirm the origin of the noise. i dont think its the sway bar end links because the car is up on jack stands and i wouldnt think itd make noise without weight on it.

so i threw the new trans lines today, topped off the fluid, and took it for a drive. had a really funky problem under full throttle. the car will take off like normal up until 4 grand then it starts to cut out and rev all weird from 4 to 6 grand and wont shift until you let off the gas. WTF!!!??? theres no check engine lights on or anything so this is really weird. :blam:

Re: 2001 olds alero 3.4 project (need help)

sounds like the trans is slipping . the trans might have been ran with to low of fluid .

uh oh, well i would sure as hell hope not. once it shifts past first it grabs fine again, then when it hits 4 grand it acts all crazy again. it wont rev past 4 either but thats just when the rev limiter kicks in. it redlines past 6 grand tho and under normal conditions it goes to 6 grand while accelerating. i wouldnt think the rev limiter would have anything to do with that while driving, would it?

edit: ill see if i cant get a vid of what it does
