2019 Silverado 1500 Gets I-4 Turbo

I would love to try one! I'm not afraid of turbos like most of you. The shitty 3.8 block I have has handled 700+hp. I see no issue with that engine making 400hp with mods and lasting. My 99 Sierra is lucky to get 11 mpg. Worse when the weather is cold. I'd be thrilled if it got 17. That engine would be great in a short bed single cab. I would rock that all day. If you need to tow heavy stuff then get the 2500 and a diesel. Pretty simple. You guys bitching about the cyl shut off but its in the 5.3 too. It's not good for block. The center cyls run too cool when off. There are electronic fixes that can turn that off. I'm sure it would only a matter of months until tuners figure out how to turn off that feature on the 4. If they put it in the Camaro the mod market would explode for it. I know the turbo 4 Mustang has a ton of support. Seen a guy go 13s stock with one and now he has it modded up and runs high 11s. If that can happen in the Camaro that would be fantastic. Like it or not the world is changing. I'm waiting for a tiny 4 diesel to run a generator for hybrid power like a locomotive. Imagine having instant torque and hp in a full sized truck while getting 40 mpg?

Yes, I believe there is another prototype company as well. From what I gather they are being designed for fleet service rather than private ownership. Depending on a company's needs something like this would be a huge savings in fuel and maintenance.

Last I heard, Workhorse was looking at offering a civilian-spec model for general sale. I think first priority is fleets, but general sales will follow. Only thing a little disappointing is towing capacity is only rated at 5,000 lbs.

I must be the only one that doesn't see an issue with this. Let's be honest, the modern V8 market is slowly dying in all but a few lines. If you can't admit that then you are delusional. Doesn't bother me or my heavy, old 496 stroker big block any. Times change, roll with it.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't use my truck the way that certain Billy Badasses here and elsewhere think a truck HAS to be used for. Yee Yee MURICA! I haul scrap occasionally, furniture, parts, and currently a spare tire(it's a full sized one though so back off). Really anything that fits in the bed. That's really it. Damn me right?!

For losers like me you can't tell me a turbo 4 cylinder won't work fine. If I had a trailer and hauled my car to the track, pulled any kind of equipment, etc...then I would have bought a 3/4 ton. This being said I probably won't ever own one of these. I like V8's too much but im not ignorant enough to not see what's happening/will be happening with auto makers.

Just be glad it's gas powered and not electric...

-83MONTESS-, Pronto-, we had a term for those guys when I was at Truck Trend... “Air Haulers.”

You know, the guys that walk into a dealership and say, “I want a truck.” The salesman asks, “Do you have a trim or powertrain in mind?” The guy replies, “I don’t know, I just want a truck. What do you have a deal on right now?” That’s who’ll buy it. Also the same guy that when you ask him what kind of engine it has, he’ll say, “I don’t know, I think it’s a V-6. The dealer said it was a turbo.”
