Ok so what's the diff between 28 spline 8.5 axle shafts and 28 spline 7.5 axles?

they use the same bearings at the edge of the tube but the 28 spline is a larger diameter axle except for that bearing. If you find a 7 5/8 carrier it may have the 28 spline side gears for the 28 spline axle

you are still going to need a 28 spline carrier/bearings along with the axles and this can be expensive... I believe the ring and pinion gear are still the smaller one, so most of the time, its a better option to upgrade the entire rear... the other thread link I posted has some good info...

No what I'm getting at is; are there any differences in the axle shafts themselves? I have some 28 spline mosier axles to fit the 7.6 carrier I originally got for my 7.5. So would these work in the 8.5 I'm looking at? I just notice that summit has mosier 7.5 28 spline axle part # and 8.5 28 spline part # and they are diff

have you got the link...as far as I know the GN axle which is an 8.5 fits the Monte SS with a 7 5/8 carrier. The Monte uses the 7.5 rear end for that carrier

Notice at the bottom Teresa an 801 and 810.(last 3 of part #)

I found that ...the 810 fits the 7.5 and 7.625. They must be speaking of some other type of carrier cause GM never had a 7.5 carrier that used 28 spline axles..the 7.625 has larger openings in the carrier to fit the 28 spline axles

I'm just confused cuz theres 2 different part #s Wierd. Need to see what I have when I get to work tomorrow
