28 spline axle shaft differences

it is weird cause they do have the 801 28 spline just for a 7.5 ...first time I have ever seen that. But I can tell you it's a common upgrade for a 7.5 housing to use a 7 5/8 carrier with 28 spline GN axles...

No what I'm getting at is; are there any differences in the axle shafts themselves? I have some 28 spline mosier axles to fit the 7.6 carrier I originally got for my 7.5. So would these work in the 8.5 I'm looking at? I just notice that summit has mosier 7.5 28 spline axle part # and 8.5 28 spline part # and they are diff
hmm your right... i think they will both work, my friend just did the 28 spline axles on his, ill see what he has to say. but you could always call moser, those guys are cool over there

Well itl be cool if they work cuz itl be like a free upgrade since I already have them

Ah ha I have discovered the difference I believe. Ok so they should work with both 7.5 and 8.5. The difference in part #'s pertains to wheel studs.78-81 use a small diameter knurled press fit than the 72 up. Both are 1/2 20 life though

you can just get a drill and open the holes up so you can use the same metric studs used on the 7.5 rear. I had to do that with the axles on my 8.2 rear

ok called moser. they said that the axles i have (part # ending in 801) will work just fine with no ill effects. they said the difference is where the c clip groove is machined. i was told its a difference less than .040". they basically said run them and have fun. i asked if they would be ok with abuse on the drag strip and was said you are fine. now maybe an auto cross situation would be different due to major side load, i dunno. but looks like im going to run them.

it is nothing to do with the c clip. its the position of the c clip groove. i would glady buy the other axles if someone would be willing ot pay me what i paid for these axles. but moser said i shouldnt even worry about it.

Well if moser says your good they should know best they make them. At least those axles are not going to collect dust and you save the headache of selling them and ordering new ones.
