I stand corrected. I do have a '67 truck block that went to 4" and has 30K abusive miles on it. Guess I just got lucky.

I agree. But for a cruiser I would take a 283 over a V6, for the looks and sound.

alot of people will agree the v8 is more desirable when being compared to a 6, but would a 283 be a better choice than a 305? from what i hear around the forums (not from experience) is that gm 5 L aren't that great. no one really puts work into rebuilding 305s and 307s.

Personally, I would take a 283 over a 305 any day.

^^Absolutely^^

A 305 gets the job done. A 283 does too, it's just way more fun. Remember what I said about gearing though.

hey now im getting my 307 rebuilt  bored over a bit because it was so worn down... but i think its pretty cool to build original and make more or as much power as you can out of the original engine that came with the the car, that takes someone special anyone can go find a big engine and built it but come on, how cool does it sound when you let people know your 307 is making 400hp  (mines not because i dont have a lot of money lol) i think the 283 would be pretty cool because you dont see many of them. its all personal preference though

Just want to clear something. I haven't heard anything negative about 307s.
