I have sprayed it. only leak present was the intake to head. but that was only present with the pcv system hooked up. with the pcv clamped and removed, no leak present. and also engine still ran poorly.
Well, that doesn't seem right at all. If you pinch off the PVC, it should create a bigger vacuum leak at the intake gasket, not make it go away....

I'm confused by this the pcv introduces a small controlled vacuum leak so when its in the valve cover and you spray the intake gasket it picks up rpm? but when its out and pinched off the same area sprayed is not affected? is this what your saying

correct. with pcv installed creating a negative pressure in the block, it is sucking in carb cleaner around the intake. when I remove valve and pinch off hose (no vacuum in block) then rpms and engine running is not effected by carb cleaner.

You should be using a AC Delco thick carb mounting gasket. Thin ones will leak and the thick ones help prevent warping the carb.

Reman carbs often have problems because remanufacturers cut corners and rebuild carbs to the specs they invent rather than to correct factory specs. A common thing they do is plug air bleeds to make the idle richer than stock to mask problems.

my current plan is cleaning and installing the original carb and see how it acts once that is on.

so after cleaning and checking out the original carb. i found the fuel inlet threads all missing. probably why the new carb was installed. after mixing parts between the old carb and the new carb i have the car idling. will idle all the way down to 600 with little issue. took it down the road, seemed to go pretty well all the up to 60. however at idle, scan tool data showed engine running lean. still around the 100mv no mater what i do to the settings. i adjusted the mixture screw on the top all the way in and back out 1/4 turn, no difference. turned idle mixture s crews at base of carb out 1 full turn more, no difference. adjusted lean stop up several turns and still no difference. if i close the choke plate, engine will smooth and mv reading will go op to 600+. any ideas?

so I have it somone figured out but I don't think it's right by any means. I got the lean idle corrected by turning the mix screws out. but there out about 7 turns. and of course going down. the road it's wicked fat.

alright, been back at it. bought a complete (temper plugs still installed) carb off ebay. tore it down and swapped over sensors, jets and needles from the oem carb. swapped over the mixture solenoid from the reman carb. i did soak it and clean it before assembly. i set idle with it in gear to 750ish and when you put it in park it goes upto 1500. definitely doesnt seem right. i have also done intake gaskets before the swap as well. anything i could/should try before i have the carn professionally gone though? could this simply be tps sensor adjustment?
