Third, 373s and drive it while you work on acquiring & building a bigger & better engine. Maybe headers or something else that can be carried over if you are just doing another sbc. If you are just doing an old school sbc cheap & available as things are I wouldn't settle for anything less than a 383.
 
Spending money to rebuild a 305 is like t*ts on a nun... useless.
 
lol thx for the advice ill do that then just change my gears dont wanna do anything amazing to my monte just want it to run good and take off when i need it to now my chevy c10 that im putting a 350 in thats another story lol but i guess ill change gears put ome headers myabe get the heads checked and my cam milled down should i replace that rochester carb for an edelbrock???

Yes you can put lt1 heads on a gen 1, But the cost is rather pricey you need to have 2 water passages used for the reverse cooling welded shut, plus you would have to get a carb intake used for the lt1, i can't tell you a price but im sure you are looking at well over 1500 to make it work, your best bet would be to mill down some vortecs for compression and go from there
and I think you need an external thermostate from what I've heard.
 
Cam milled down? . . Unless its sick keep the Q-jet.
