I have been planning putting a T5 in place of my metric 200 for quite some time, once I find a good deal on one. Is the reason you had to have a custom pilot bearing made because the crank is only drilled for an automatic? Also, which hydraulic throwout bearing did you end up going with? Did you use the original starter? My bellhousing is from a 260 so I don't see the starter being different. I have a bench seat. I was thinking of getting a T5 from a 4.3l s10 so the shifter would come up in front of the bench seat like a stock g body with a manual. If that doesn't work I will do buckets and a center console. BTW, thanks for finding that flywheel part number!
Hey, that's why I posted to try and help. First, the Olds cranks for the 260, 307, 350, and 403 are all the same. Most were drilled for a bushing and a few were not. Why? IDK, but my 307 was a 1990 smog motor out of a Fleetwood Caddy and it was drilled for the bushing. The problem is that no one carries the stock olds pilot bushing. Not one company had the right one. the chevy pilot bushing is the right depth, but the outter diameter is too small. (wish i had pics of when i compared them.) I still have the chevy PB, it came with the clutch kit.
So Used the ones I got from O'reilly's auto parts that had a OD that was too big and had half the depth of the Chevy PB and had them tuned down to the inside diameter of the crank. I bought two of them and together they matched the depth of the Chevy PB exactly. You'll have to measure the crank ID yourself. ( I was too fast to install them to take pics, Sorry.)
When iI got them back from the machinist, i had to rub a little off so they would go in snug and tapped them into place.
Now about the T5 from the S10, Your right about it being in front of the bench seat, but its the gearing of that T5 that is way wrong for your motor. If your using the 260, then the V6 Camaro T5's gearing may be better. If you dead set on using the bench, then just get and mix and match them both. They do have to be World Class T5s though. the Non WC doesn't interchange with the WC. After 1988, the F body T5s were WC. after 1992 the S10s were WC. I modified the top holes in my bellhousing to take my 1998 T5. the bottom had holes already there. My T5 is a 3.8/ LS1 from a firebird. the strength is the same as the earlier V8 F body T5s. the only mod i had to do was trim 1/4 inch off the tip of the input shaft.
I finally used a Howe Racing hydraulic throw-out bearing. Those details are in my other post. "Hydraulic clutch set up, Wish me luck". I hope I helped.
