I say pencero doesn't know what he's talking about. Sorry, I'm just 'keeping it real'.

why does everyone have to be so rude?

C'mon, this sort of bickering isn't needed or wanted.

There is no more bickering in this thread than any other.

It seemed pretty obvious to me that pencero's first post had plenty of 'tone' to it. He implied 'Olds purist' was somehow a bad thing or being one was 'wrong' or 'stupid'. In his own words, he basically said 'putting an Olds engine in an Olds instead of a Chevy engine is dumb' therefore implying anyone who has done such is an idiot. Maybe he didn't mean it that way, but that's the way it came across.

His other statement about it being easier to swap to an engine of a different make being somehow easier than staying with the same make was just flat out silly.

So my post stating he didn't know what he was talking about was simply in reference to his first post. It wasn't meant to be derogatory and/or to start an argument, but lets be honest, sometimes people post crap and need to be called on it. It's not like I called him a bad name or anything.

Original poster said he had a 3 speed trans. Therefore, he "may" need a new trans, unless his has a dual bolt pattern. Not many did.

So let's run it down, to swap in a chevy he will need:

Trans, or adapter plate- $
Exhaust- $
Radiator hoses- $
Acc. Brackets if the new chevy doesn't have any- $
Motor mounts- $

Or he can find an Olds and use everything from the 307 to get his car running again.

I'm not seeing where a chevy is cheaper :?

Btw, I built a 455 Olds for less than $1000 that runs mid 11's. They're only expensive if you make them

but I already tried to buy olds 350 before and it was ****ed up but the guy still wanted like $800 for it.

Yes, but you can't base your 'Chevy is cheaper' defence on the fact that one goofball tried to rip you off on buying his crappy Olds engine. If I were to use that kind of logic, I could say all Chevy engines suck because the one I had was a worn out POS and therefore all other Chevys must equally suck too, but I know that's just not the case.

If you REALLY want an Olds engine, join an OLDS forum where people have so many rockets laying around they take em to the scrap yard. That's how I got mine.

well this is og poster lol, i have bought a 403 and i have a 307 in the car already with 5a heads that i will be using just for a little boost right now, i also bought a th350 with the 403.. if i decide to go wild i will go with a chevy.. i like keeping it olds but i think that its all GM no matter how much u fight and (guessing) more than likely same engineers.. anyways it doesn't matter to me, but my wallett, now i do have a question about the trans i bought.. will i need a new driveshaft and crossmember or no? its a thm200 in the car now.. and yes searching for 8.5 rear

Driveshaft will be the same, assuming the th350 is not a longshaft (out of a truck). When you get an 8.5 rear, then you will need a shorter driveshaft. I think it's shorter with the 8.5.

And they used different engineers when they designed the engines. All you have to do is look at the engines, they have almost nothing in common
