Anyone have any ideas or maybe I may get lucky and you have done it yourself.

I have a 83 cutlass with 68 sbo 350 in it the water pump and pulleys are all correct for the 68 350 with AC and I believe my brackets are from the 307 unfortunately it has a newer R4 compressor I can’t seem to figure out exactly how to get the pulley system to work and can’t afford a serpentine set up .

At the moment I have the compressor bracket spaced forward pretty much as far as it will go and it has landed the ac belt on the 2nd slot in the pulley. In the slot closest to the block is the alternator and power steering pump though this causes me a small issue because now the power steering pump only has one belt and slips occasionally and I cannot get the compressor to align completely. Also I do believe whatever bracket was used for the power steering may be incorrect because I can’t get it to mount fully and get the pullies to line up which causes it to have a bit of movement.

Any help would be appreciated I’m pretty much beating my head against the wall at this point.

Do you have the bottom PS bolt attached to the engine mount? If not, it will sit cockeyed. Also there a spacer on the second bolt down that must be in place on the stud or it will sit cockeyed as well. I actually hate Olds belt set up. Really, are 4 different water pump lengths and multiple spacers are really neccessary? Olds engineers to think so. Good luck.

Yea I’ve noticed engineers never consider the people that need to work on it.

My power steering bracket only has a bolt hole that lines with a bolt hole in the block? Also definitely don’t have the spacers right no wonder the dang thing is cockeyed.

My compressor is cockeyed too apparently from speaking with others when I originally attempted to fix my issue I screwed up by making my pulleys and water pump match 68 spec since I have 307 brackets it would have essentially direct bolt in had I made a set of matching 307 pulleys and water pump so I’m working on researching that now. Nothing better than buying parts that are quickly made useless.

I currently have a crank pulley and water pump pulley from a 307 that I think match my only issue is finding a correct power steering pump pulley that will press on to my current pump and of course verifying all my brackets are complete.

So if anyone has a compendium of the correct 307 pulley sets and water pump with part numbers or letter codes that would be a lifesaver though I know it’s unlikely.

Oh well guess next time it will teach me to do even more research before buying I’ve worked on a lot of vehicles but this one is so interesting almost makes me sad we didn’t just get lazy and do a sbc swap.

There is also a spacer for the A/C compressor as well the inside top bolt, I believe. Yeah, an awesome system. What is the ps pump off?

Yea I have that spacer luckily.

Also from what I know it’s the 68 power steering pump with a 2 groove kk pulley.

I noticed the 307 has a 1 groove power steering pulley still trying to find the part numbers for other pulleys

I have both a 70 ps pump and a 88 pump, I can do some measurements.

Thanks I appreciate it the first thing that jumps out at me is my alternator bracket looks similar but definitely different and it aligns with the belt slot closest to the engine block.

And I believe my power steering bracket may be the one for the 68 motor but I’m not sure wish someone had a picture of the brackets off car for comparison.

Yep I did some looking and based on things I found on google it seems I’ve been blessed with a cluster****

My power steering and alternator brackets seem to be from somewhere between 68-72 the ac bracket is obviously from a 307

My pulleys are a complete set of 68 pulleys and I have an extra crank and water pump pulley that I believe go to a 307

Now I need to find someone parting a 307 or one in the junk yard so I can grab actual matching parts before I pull my hair out.

Now, you're using your noggin! Don't limit yourself to a 307; all Olds small blocks are the same from 64-90 from 260-403. Just get a complete set, however you may need a different water pump (again).
