I started rebuilding the 307 in my 86 cutlass, after dumping a bunch of money in it I came across a 72 350 Rocket for a steal so I now have a half the parts for a 307 just sitting around. I know not much is interchangeable from a 86 307 to a 72 350, still curious if the water pump is one of them. They look like a match but as far as performance goes is it workable?
Already gotta sell off half an engine, hoping I can salvage a few things.

All of the accessories from a 307 bolt to the 350. Externally, the two engines are identical. Even heads, intakes, oil pans, valve covers, distributors, timing covers will interchange between them.

1986 307 heads bolt to a 1972 350 block?
I hope to hell this is true, I have fresh reconditioned 307 heads if it is.
Regardless of them fitting on the block something has to differ in them though, right? They do both have 7A heads but I assumed engine size or year would separate the two.

Everything swaps.. you might have to watch how the header gasket sits it may need to be modified a little. do a dry fit before you finalize it. I just did the whole swap and all my parts from the 307 crossed over to heaven onto my 350 :D

Good luck!

DON'T put on 307 7A heads on your 350. The 7A 350 heads are totally different. The 307 has swirl port heads with tiny ports, nearly everyone complains they are under powered. The only issue on the 72 350 is huge dish pistons, so stay very conservative on the cam, unless you swap the pistons.

I should know this, but I don't recall the specifics; head bolt sizes are different between those heads and I think the dowl pin size too. Again I don't remember specifics. Either way, the better 5A 307 heads are a crappy choice for a 350. The 7A 307 heads are even worse. Stick with the 350 heads.

Early 350's had 7/16" head bolts and later 307's used 1/2" bolts iirc. Definitely do not put 307 heads on the 350, it'll run but it will be a dog.

Thanks for the info, kinda assumed the heads wouldn't work but would been nice if they could. Just gunna sit on the 307 heads until I find some use out of them.

i drilled out my #5 heads to 1/2 bolts to use on a 77 block with a drill press and then measured the dowel pins depth and diameter and did that with a handheld drill no problems whatsoever
