350 cid

This could possibly be a case of "When is a 350 not a 350?" And the answer is," When the 350 under consideration is a 350 Pontiac motor instead of being an SBC 350". And no, they are most definitely not the same motor in any way shape or form. Nothing exchanges or crosses.
While a 350 Chevy can be bored/stroked out to a 383, the 350 Poncho shares the same basic block with its bigger brothers the 400 and 455. Sure you can the stuff the 350 block to where it is a 434 but with a stock block that is kind of like taking a grenade with a 2 second fuse and floating it in a pool of pure nitro-glycerine with a shorted electrical extension cord for the fuse. The big ka-boom is inevitable; all that is missing is the amount of time before it happens.
The Pontiac mill, by contrast is heavier, but also stouter and capable of tolerating a fair amount of abuse in return for delivering a serious amount of low end grunt. If you really want to get silly, there is even a supplier of Pontiac parts that offers a engine block that will return a CID once assembled that is way deep into elephant country for size.

As for the 305, they can be described as the flathead of our generation. Not particularly blessed with either power or torque, they do offer longevity and plentitude. They can be had as take outs for cheap. They can be bored/stroked but that will only get you to around a 327 in cid. They do respond to add ons like hedders and manifolds, they like the 600-650 Holley. You can convert them to EFI. I have one in my Monte because it is year correct for the car and I have no intention of scalding the tires or becoming an expert in rebuilding rear ends or doing clutch swaps in an hour.

For something unique, though, having the Poncho mill in an 84 Grand Prix would be kind of kool.
