Another option would be a Porsche 914 with a FWD drivetrain installed mid mount. Yes, a water cooled radiator would have to be installed, but that could be done with multiple radiators from motorcycles to keep from needing one giant radiator. This is sometimes done with VTEC Austin Mini's. The Mini swaps sometimes also use a quad throttle body or quad carb setup from a large displacement bike to save space as that engine bay is tiny! I kinda wonder what the Ariel Atom does for fuel economy as it weighs 1400lbs with either a turbo Ecotec ( US spec) or a blown Honda CTR engine.

i know of one car that might really work with this idea. you guys ever hear of the incredible ford festiva.my step fathers had 2 of these cars, my mother has one now. these cars were very ahead of there time. pulling 40 to 50 mpg.so a lot of people take a mazda b6t engine and put it in these little cars run very respectable #s all the way around milage, drag times.everything, kinda want for the winter actually

1991 Nissan Pulsar GTIR, ugly as hell but great on gas(if not always heavy footed) and fast like a mother right out of the box.

we never got the gtir in the usa gonna be pricey as hell rather have a mazda 323gtr the transmission is stronger its awd turbo too. im thinking ford festiva with a mazda bpd in it. or a elantra with a 4g63 or a mk2 gti with a vr6 put in it.or build a small block rx7 they have kits that bolt in any small block you like even a kit to loose the irs for a ford 8.8 .

Yeah, we never got the N14 Pulsar in any form, let alone the RNN14 Chassis AWD GTiR, but we did get a very close sibling ( under the skin) to the FWD Pulsar- The B13 Sentra! The SE-R Variant came with the SR20DE, and the SR20DET from either the U12 Bluebird or RNN14 Pulsar/Sunny GTiR is a bolt in. Unfortunately, even the N/A SE-R did not get 35mpg city. It was rated at around 22mpg city. I I/M with a guy in California who has a SR20DET B13 and his gets 19mpg, around the same a my friend's 1G DSM AWD with 4G63T. However, a B13 Sentra with the base GA16DE/5 speed setup can get over 30mpg stock. I got 32 mpg delivering pizza with a 98 Sentra XE /5 speed ( B14 chassis). Sport Compact Car did a Fastiva buildup a few years back, and detailed the install of a B6T from a Capri XR/2 into a Festiva. I think it is available on their website. ( It's an odd marriage, if you think about it. Kia built the Festiva for Ford with a Mazda powertrain, while Ford of Australia Built the Mercury Capri for Ford of the US using a Mazda drivetrain.Ford also used the B6 in the Escort GT which shared it's platform with the Mazda Protege/323.)

+1 for the festiva my friend had one and once we had the fart cannon exhaust on it he outran a GTO............in the snow

but yeah this festiva completely stock except for exhaust would get filled with gas once a month. and the kid drove it hard too not trying to save gas

we didnt get the GTIR in Canada either, but with all the japanese importing now there are tons of them. i had a JDM(right hand drive) MR2 that i sold 2 months ago with some good mods and i still didnt touch the GTIR when it was stock. my buddy's ran 14.3 stock, my best was 14.8 and my gas mileage was sh*t.

I had actually sat down once and figured out how to do a factory-like install of the AWD system from the GTiR to the B13 Sentra. It was posted on Nissanforums.com, but the database no longer goes back that far. I had researched technical drawings and data to figure out the easiest way of doing it but, like always, never had the money to try it. Oddly enough, though, I have since figured out an easier way to get the rear suspension than to source it from Japan or Europe. It seems the B12 Sentra Wagon had AWD optional and the two cars are very similar underneath. So, it's possible to do this using a USDM rear clip from a B12 with the front cut from the Pulsar/Sunny.

im really thinking about buying a 500 dollar festiva i know of now. ive been thinking bout buyin it but been afraid of being laughed, but hey it would be more different than the average ricer for a gas saving perfmance build i geuss
