383's rule!!

check out speedomotive in cali. they have various stroker kits. make sure the block walls are notched and the connecting rod bolts are shaved so nothing hits. speedomotive shaves the rod bolts for you--making things easier! you may also have to grind down some spots on your oil pan, depending on type and if it has a windage tray or a crank scrapper. as to parts--definately run vortec style heads, a roller can if you can (if you have the old style gen1 block the lifters are expensive but worth it) and the right size carb--about 650-675cfm.
i have a 73 block with gm vortec heads, a comp-cams xe274 cam and lifter kit, edelbrock performer intake, holley 650 carb, -12cc d-dish hypereutectic pistons (9.7:1 compression, .032 quench) nodular iron stroker crank, 5.7in 5140 forged rods and plasma moly rings. comparing it to similar engines it should have 425-450lbs of torque and 400+hp.

well so far i got the eagle stroker kit for it wiht 64cc heads the compressions 10.7:1 n the rod bolt are already cut
i kno its a good starting point now its just time to start adding stuff on

i'm looking at building a 383 as well. Probably going to use the kit from enginekits.com that was in the recent super chevy magazine. From the article i got the idea that they liked what they got with the kit.

the eagle kit was $750 from summit it comes wiht speedpro pistons forged eagle rods and a brand new eagle crank

eagles a good company for stuff like that

so just got the motor back from the machine shop this past weekend and got the rottating assembly in it and painted it here a pick
