des plaines, il
i found one on craigslist for 600 bones and it came out of a 76 impala. the seller says its got 60k on it. it doesnt have an intake or car, and im assuming distrib. eather. would my stuff off my 307 fit on there or is it a bbc? i have no idea. but it sounds nice. good deal or no??

Sorry guy only chevy stuff will fit on the 396. Thats a good deal to it would nice to put that in a monte SS.

they did not make 396 in 1976. should be a 454. or could be a 400 small block. post the front code on the pass head pad. ill tell you what it is. . 600 is a bit high.

Could be a 402 big block as well... unless it's not the Impala's original motor... then it could theoretically be anything...

Your SBC parts won't work on a BBC... there are a few exceptions, like motor mounts.

and honestly the 396 wasn't a very good engine. if it's a 454 though.... 😀 😀

Some of the Chevy 307 stuff will fit on a 396, like the distributor, motor mounts, and carburetor, but nothing else will. If you have an Olds 307, pretty much none of it will work. As for the Chevy 396, it is best left for restoration junkies as it is just too small for the weight penalty it imposes. I would rather have a 400 SBC than a 396/402 BBC, or worse- a 366 BBC truck engine. Also, the others are right in that the 396 was not factory installed past 1969. Subsequent years were all 402's, even though some years were labeled as 396's due to marketing reasons.

its a chevy 307 sbc motor i have now. i saw it on craigslist but i just wanna know what it is.

x2, 400 small block ftw.

beermonkey - I really wish I sunk all my cash in a 400 instead of 383, but it's done anyway. If I did it over (and might in a few years 😳 ) it would be the 2 bolt mighty mouse

well i guees thats outa the question...
