to use drop spindles.

9 bucks eh? im most definatly going to check that out!

Nice Cutlass! Looks like progress is going very well.

trunk looks great! anything special you did for the install?

Thanks Guys! Nothing real special for installation. Although I had to use some hot glue in some places, like the squared off piece around the trunk arm/hinge. My other idea for there was a stronger magnet but in a sheet, then hot glue that to the carpet.

Most everything else is just making sure you measure everything else four or five times before you make the cut. That and getting the pieces to lay flat on contours.

The real test will be finding a material that will be easily contourable (is that a real word?) to make a cover for over the spare tire and jack. I was thinking like maybe a thicker plastic or something? Any ideas? I thought cardboard might work but look a little cheap. There is a picture here:http://www.gbodyparts.com/popup_image.php?pID=144&image=5&osCsid=8c5fbcb42e93bc9b3439eddc829f865f
any ideas or suggestions? Thanks again for the kind words!!

Fiberglass could do it if done right. You would have to cover the area in question with plastic and newspaper then make it on top. Basically this is how some old time customizers did it in the past. Supposedly, some of Ed Roth's cars were made this way and it was pretty easy to tell since they were crude in the areas not seen on display.

Maybe I could scrounge up some thinner cardboard, and make cuts and overlap it to get the contour something like in the picture in my prevoius post, then glass it. Good idea!!! I'm definately going to look into that.

How does the newspaper help with the fiberglassing part? Just curious.

Today I'm going to cover the back of the back seat. I think I'm going to put carpet behind my X-braces, and over those stamped suppourts. I'll try it, but I don't know if it will work and look good. Hate to cover up my x braces, just because they look cool

Well, some of the cruder things use the newspaper to build up a general form which is then glassed over. It may be that they are using it to make a mold plug which is then used to make the final part, but I do remember seeing a rather crudely made flip front for a Austin Mini Clubman with a Rover 215 v8 driving an Austin Princess gearbox, and he cut a hole in the flip front, covered the part of the engine with newspaper, and glassed over it! It made for a hideous bulge, but the newspaper left enough extra clearance when it was done to account for engine movement. Remember that the newspaper is not left in place once it is done.

That is a unique approach. Sounds like a pretty different/interesting car. I'm still not sure how I'm going to do it, the glass idea is in the top few. I'm going to keep my eyes out for a big thinner piece of cardboard or plastic first I think.
