Heads look great! Your 2k stall might be a little tight for that cam but it should work out. The duration @ .050 on my cam is 230/230 and I have a 2400-2800 stall in my trans.

Do you like that converter? I'm just gonna throw mine together and see what it does, if i dont like it, i'll get another converter and throw it in on a weekend or something.

Soo, theres a reason why I havent updated in a while... After the summit run, we came back and tore the bottom end out because i wanted to do the rear main seal. I found a slightly spun rod bearing. And the crank was in pretty sad shape, mains were grooved up as well for some reason. That motor was rebuilt, and the crank was already .010 undersized.

Figured it would be better to find a running 350 with a stock bottom end to throw my top end on. A buddy had one that was thought to be in running condition. Picked it up and tore that down to find rusty bores, minor pitting and an oddball piston. Thankfully he is a good guy, and we worked it out , so i got my money back.

Now back to the 355: I didnt want to take my crank to .020 under, so I ordered a reman crank kit thats at .010 under. Picked that up today, looks good, hasnt been welded. DUe to some peer pressure, I'm getting the flat-tops re-ringed and put on my old rods to up the compression  I'll be around 10.5:1

I also got some paint from work, fixed and spotted in my rear bumper cover, and got the new chrome bumper on. Still have a little wetsanding to do.

The plan right now is to get the motor together and running by this weekend (fingers crossed). Hopefully in the car as well. Might fire it up on the stand to check for oil leaks and break her in a little.

thanks man! Dont get on here much anymore really with all my projects and other stuff lol.

I got the motor in the summer right between highschool and college. The first day i drove it was the last day of highschoo (with the 231)l. But i had been working on it way before that. Got it when i was 15. Only did one year of college, and have been continuously working on it since.

As far as an update, After summer is almost ****ing over, i finally have the new motor done (kinda) Heres the story:

My buddy and i put the 350 together at my house, he has put together countless motors. everything went smooth and we got it all done and in. ran great and broke in after we figured out it wont run on 87 octane  yanked it back out to replace a rear main seal (leaked like it wasnt there), and found my main bearings down to copper and my reman crank JUNKED. sh*t.

Looked for a running shortblock with no success. really wanted a 403 to slap my top end and cam on. no luck.

Bought a 69 shortblock with a nice nodular Crank. Had it machined, and had the motor put together by a reputable guy who works out of his house. He is into olds big blocks, so he really helped me out. he was suprised a young guy like me was into oldsmobiles haha.

Anywho, got the motor back and into the car, runs great, again! Guess what my problem is... LEAKING REAR MAIN SEAL! tore it back out and ordered the AMC rubber seal. I've been busy laely with my other project car and all kinds of other stupid stuff, so i havent got the new seal in yet. But hoping for this weekend.

How about a video! I'm satisfied with my cam choise, havent got throttle happy yet, still have to put some miles on her. hopefully ill have it in, and get it broke in before winter.

Plans:
Brakes are not the best now, due to my cam... so maybe hydroboost conversion?
And most importantly... I have a new frame for it!

fwiw I ran a 30 under crank motor for a long time with no issues. If you have a lock up torque converter I would take full advantage of it to match your cam. Probably 2,800 or 3,000 stall. If you don't have a lock up you will probably like the overall best compromise of about a 2,400 stall. What rear gear and what transmission or specifically what first two gear ratios you have in the trans can make some difference.

thanks for the info Dogshit.

@ kiefer84
A real good friend of mine who also has a 800 on his 403 worked it over for me. high flow needle and seat and some other stuff that i forget. throttle response is great on it. I really like it. i've been debating going holley, but i think i'm sticking with the qjet. I just need to swap to an electric choke assembly in it and ill be golden.

What kind of rear main seal was/were you putting in and having it leak....its hard to tell by the pictures but it looks like the crank was polished? Were the grooves on the back of crank polished off? The grooves help with oil control.....I did a 383 Chevy once with a 2pc seal. The grooves were not there and for whatever reason I was unable to not have it leak. I eventually put a rope seal in it. I have not heard of that engine since. I would probably put a rope seal in that thing and hope for the best.

Well, i finally got my motor broke in today. Time to change the oil again and now can start laying on the throttle a little more

Pic of it before the show today, looks better in pictures than it actually is 😢

Also this is the first show i was able to make it to this year in the olds. And just so happened to be the last show of the season really. kinda depressing.

Couple shots of the powerplant. Wanted to paint the block gold, but was in a rush to drop it in the car...

Also playing around with the idea of running 15's on the front next summer. i think it looks a little better than 14's. If I loose a couple inches in the front, i think it will look perfect.

Working on sanding down and polishing my M/T valve covers to give it some bling under the hood. Got new wire looms, but no pictures yet. Still lots of details to work out, but happy the motor is situated finally.
