Whoa , need some help from any 4 SPD guys out here. Apparently Saginaw made 5 different tail housings for these transmissions . For a g body shifter to work it must be a certain one . I stand corrected on previous thoughts . Does anyone have a pic ? I'm told one out of a 67 to 72 Camaro etc. Will work. These problems seem to pop up constantly on this car .

Visited an old school transmission shop today. First of all they feuded amongst each other if such a thing existed so we went through pics. Then showed build sheet . MM4 4 SPD. So apparently the trans has been modified through the years and used a make shift shifter. I called Hurst and just need to change out the tail housing.

NM , think I got it. Let ya know

Yup, you need the flat sided one. That way the shifter mount can fit flat up against the side and then bolt to the main case. The fat round sided one won't work. But if that is all you have, then you can mount the shifter like on a Firebird. That will position it about six inches to the rear. It will work with bucket seats but may need some massaging of the trans tunnel for the shifter rods to clear.

Here is a pic. Notice the floor pan hole. I had just moved the shifter from the tail to the correct mount location.

Jared- that's a better pic. And THAT is the correct shifter mount. The rods that fit with that mount are special too. I believe the whole installation kit is still available from Hurst and various vendors as well as Epay.

Here's my Monza Saginaw with the Comp Plus mount plate installed. As long as the tail housing has the the tapped mount bosses you should be good. Most '65-'83 Saginaw 3 or 4 speeds have them, not all are tapped, some don't have all the mount bosses, & some don't have any (possible just ment for column shift 3 speeds.)
