Yes, it will have a set of the long branch HO/RA manifolds

All these the ones you speak of? I'm still learning my way around the Pontiac parts so bear with me if I come across as an idiot. I'm not a fan of headers either, but I want to run the best manifolds that I can while still fitting in the car.

Yes, that's them. Those are the "long branch" that fit 67'-69' F and B bodies. I have 2 sets of original 67' HO F body. There is another type for the A and 2nd gen F bodies. I'm not sure exactly which fit best on a 78' -87' G body, but I'm sure Shotgun knows.

I'm getting my parts list together for when I bring the 455 home. I'm looking for some input on the best set-up for a tame, yet torquey street car. I'm going with an OD trans and haven't decided on rear gears yet.

I was thinking about my old car a little bit more. Actually that motor was not +.030, it was standard bore with just a simple re-ring and bearing job. I honed that one out in my driveway. I re-used the original pistons and and rods in that motor. That one didn't want to rev much past 5K. It just didn't pull hard past that so there was no reason to rev it any higher.

The '71 T/A that I had was the one with the +.030 TRWs. That one had stock rods also but they were side beam polished, shot peened and they had aftermarket rod bolts. It was also a balanced rotating assembly. It had ported 455 HO round port heads, a comp 292 hydraulic cam and the factory aluminum HO intake manifold. It also had a quadrajet and HO/RA manifolds. I thought the cam in this motor was less street friendly, almost a little too much for the way the car was set up. It was an auto with a slight stall and 3.55 gears. That motor liked to rev up to 6K and I had it there many times. It actually didn't run much better times at the track than my GTO did, maybe a tenth or two faster.

Both of these cars had the shorter style RA/HO manifolds, not the long branch. Both cars also had 2 1/2" mandrel bent exhaust systems all the way to the back bumper.

If you look at the "H" cam it was used in the 455SD as a "Y" cam. Looking over this list I see now that the factory used pretty much the same specs for the cast rod motors, and bumped it up a bit for the RAIV and 73' 455SD.

I believe the only reason they have different P/Ns is because the SD used a different distributor gear. That cam works well in a 455.

Always thought the letters they chose for the cams were kinda unforunate S H Y T .

Anyway, the Abody Ram Air manifolds fit the gbody, never did the long branch myself . I think you may run into linkage clearance issues with a manual (long branch).

Maybe I can see if we have a set in stock at PY and try a test fit.

There is a post here where a couple guys modified the headman shorties to fit also.

Low gears like 3.08 are a great match for a 455.

Blake, it is currently in a 68' Firebird convertible. It is in there just to be able to move it around without having to shove it. I have a ST-10 behind it. It is bone stock out of a 76' Grandville. I had plans to use it in my wagon before gas prices went bonkers way back when 07'-08'. I used a 301 instead since it is a fishing/chore wagon. I also may use it in a 77' TA I have that right now has a 400 and ST-10 in it. I am also toying with the idea of using a Turbo 301 in the convertable. I mentioned that on a Pontiac site and I was allmost tarred and feathered, figuratively speaking, by the purists who see anything less than a 400/455 a sacrilidge. Lots of thoughts rattling around inside my head which direction to go.

I can relate to you on that. I went from staying with an SBC since that's what's in the car, to considering a 400, then settling on a 455.
Now I need to decide if I want to go a TH400 with a high gear, or get a 200-4R with a low gear. Too many options, not enough cash!
