Decided to put a 455/475HP.new crate into the cutty. Called a little company in town and they said it could be ready by Jan.'10.
What I forgot to ask them was the best rear end to use. Any suggestions? Since I'm going to drop $12K.on a motor I want to make sure I put the correct running gear in. Reason I don't call them back is because they are all gone this afternoon to a show involving some new techs' and won't be back till next week. I'm going for a loan on this and want to get enough money put aside.

went onto chat line and was told to get an 8.5er.that will do,thanks. 😀

I think I'll need to upgrade my tires too. anyone know of a good tire to put on her so she'll be able to handle the incredible horsepower produced? I'm thinking i should also upgrade to 15" rims.

If your dumping that kind of cash into the motor, you should call Moser and have them build you a 12 Bolt GM rearend. For tires, if you want some serious traction look at street slicks, I'm assuming this is a show/race type of car. BFGoodrich, M/T make some good ones, just examples.

I'm going to drive the car to work as a daily driver but only if it doesnt rain too much. got to be safe.

Man, what kind of budget are you going for? Sounds like a blank-check project. Nice

Blank check budget...god i wish. Na,unfortunately all i can get together for now is $18K. When that is gone I'll be waiting till next summer to get more done. slow process but one that will be worth it! 😀

$12K for a 475 horse motor?!?!

My 455 is around 430-440 horse and I only spent about $3500 on it...

Some savvy shopping and that budget of yours will go a lot farther.

I do agree that the 12-bolt Moser makes for G-bodies is a good idea.
What transmission are you going to run?

Mickey Thompson and Nitto make some pretty good drag radials.

Holy balls. $12k is way too much for an engine that only puts out that much power. Now if you were spending $12k for a 455 low compression motor that was running a procharger setup with custom pulleys and a blow-thru carb.....that would be worth $12k I would say.

I would do some more shopping around to find a more reasonable engine builder that will just make you what you want. Crate motors are so overpriced.

I have a 455 in my Cutlass with a Ford 9". I recommend the 9 inch, you will most likely never have any problems

$18k is close enough to a blank check to me...
