455 in a 83 Hurst swap

I got my 84 H/O with a 403 getting ready to drop in pretty soon maybe by the winter.

See my build thread for some info. I highly recommend the Hooker 3203s. A lot of people recommend the W/Z manifolds, but since you're doing the swap for performance reasons, why not wring all the trapped horsepower you can out of it? Very easy swap in general. I'm not running AC, but I still have the stock AC heater box. I'd probably recommend going with the notched valve covers just for a little breathing room, but my stock '70 big car covers don't hit. Good luck.

I have the Hooker 3203's there nice but you lose alot of turning room since a tube on each side comes outside the frame rail. just gotta be careful turning.

I've got 215-65-15s and while you do lose some radius, it only shows up for me in the most extreme turns. I park in a pretty tight garage for work, and I don't notice it there, only when I'm trying to do a sharp 90 degree turn into a spot.

yah i should have added im running a 235-65-15 in the front. I'm gunna go skinnier soon when i get new tires.

If your going for power then pass on the Edelbrock carb. You'll be giving up 30hp on a good build.

x2, don't hear good things about edelbrock carbs, think some ownership was swapped over and a lot of people started to complain about more complex products.

My motor came with an Edelbrock carb, and I will say that it's very reliable and has good street manners. I don't like giving up power though, so I'll be replacing it as soon as I can get my Qjet rebuilt. I know THAT will be reliable and have good street manners too...plus an extra hundred or so CFM.

Is it true the 403 is an easier swap then the 455. Whats the HP rating

Well stock HP was 180 & 320tq, im thinking modestly I should be around 325+HP & 425+tq, mild cam #5 heads, edelbrock rpm intake, bored 20 over. As far the swap the 403 is the same size ad the 307 but the 455 is taller. There will be more mods needed for the big block but it cam be done.
