A rebuilt TH2004R with a shift kit.HurstOlds said:Sorry if you already mentioned it...but what trans are you using in this car? You mentioned 4 gears
dogshit said:I run a performer with a 3" filter. I cut a hole in the hood and used a cheap Lauren Hurst Olds replica scoop. I cut the back out so that it would be functional. I also added a donut to the bottom of the breather base so that I could mount foam in order to seal out hot underhood head so that the air breather only get fresh outside air. Their are pix in the photo album.
HurstOlds said:ok, I know this is a stupid question, but do you think that trans will hold up to the power the 455 puts out?
I have a TH400 behind my 455 and I'm dying to get an overdrive. I took it out on a road trip last Friday and spent $100 in gas.
Other than an overdrive my only other option is to swap out the rear end gears.
Do you have an idea what kind of power your 455 is putting out?
Also, are you going to be hitting up the Hurst Olds/All Olds day in Illinois this weekend? I'll be there with my car
dogshit said:With the same gears you should make a 1/3 better mileage with the 200-4r & a working lock up converter over a th400. I got 17.0 mpg on a interstate trip. Without it I think I might have gotten 12 mpg plus the motor would have screamed a lot more if I had tried to hold the same speed. BTW I was following a buddy with a diesel truck & trailer running 70 to 75mph.

I think it also depends on what you are using the car for that will determine the life span of it. If it were me, I would go with one of these, http://www.2004r.com/trans/level3.shtml . It might be over kill, but I would feel much safer with it behind a 455. These engines have no problem making that amount of torque, so I think the trans would last a long time behind the 455.
