In the random pictures earlier i saw someone had a Maroon(red) cutlass with a 455 with either tuned port injection or at least a fuel injection system. I have looked everywhere on the forum for the individual with this car. i would like more information on the setup they have and or if anyone else has a similar set up. I would welcome anyone that has any knowledge of installing a TPI set up on the 455. I want to know anything there is to convert a carburetor car over to fuel injection.

It's pretty simple really.

You need an intake manifold drilled for the fuel injector bungs and then need the bungs welded in place. You need fuel rails, fuel injectors, a throttle body, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump, EFI fuel tank, sensors, wiring harness and computer of your choice. Depending on what EFI system you go with and if you want sequential port EFI then you would also need a distributor as well.

To make it a little simpler you could do a throttle body injection setup and not have to modify the intake. If you use an Accel Thruster EFI you can start off with a TBI setup and then later on upgrade to a full multiport EFI.

Fast es-efi, msd atomic efi, Holley terminator efi, etc. They are all direct bolt on onto any 4 barrel intake. Easy hook up, not a lot of wiring, only welding is an o2 bung. It sure woke up my 434 SBO and gave it better mpg to boot.

Lets say that I went with a tbi setup from an old 92 Chevy truck. Would the throttle body mount to the 455's intake without any modifications?

No way. That 2bbl TBI is crazy restrictive for a 455. They do make adapters to put that 2bbl TBI on a 4bbl intake. But why make a 455 breath through a straw? dr78442's home made EFI elbow doesn't flow like a 4bbl EFI set up either. I just looks good. Why do you think GM doesn't put those kind of small set ups on any new LS motors? Gm knew they restrict flow to a high performance engine. They are great for every day cruising and get good gas milage. If that's what your going for then why even have a 455? A 350 would be a better choice. Even a 307 can have great performance using EFI. Had GM put EFI on the 307, it would have been their best 5.0 motor. Period!
The 4bbl EFI set ups are the best bang for the buck high performance wise and will get decent gas milage.

You mean "dr78442"? ---- YES Thank you, i looked everwhere for that car on here.

- this was my first intent, i just happened to fall into the engine for $50,why not.

i also agree that the set up looks incredible, one of the reasons i wanted more info. I Didnt know though that the tbi set ups like that were 2bbl. i dont want that, the engine allready has a 2 bbl intake and i wabted that gone.

thank you for the info thust far , keep it coming if any one has more to add.

If you want to go multi point with the 455, A good intake is the Torker, RPM Air Gap, and the Victor. Using the Edelbrock EFI elbows along with the LS throttle bodies.

Thanks for the nice words everyone. As far as the throttle body being to restrictive or the engine not living up its potential the dyno number wouldn't lie . The engine was dynoed at 480 horsepower and 550 foot pounds of torque without NOS. It is true that a mono blade throttle may give me a little more. But I am happy with the results . The cars runs very well and has great street characteristics.I ended up with something that looks good and runs very well. This same set up came off my Ramjet 502 which was engineered by GM . That engine made 510 horses and 565 torque. Anyway do your research before you start buying parts and look at FE3X build. If I can help in anyway please contact me. Again don't rush take your time find a set up you like and go with that.
