That truck is super clean man. I almost built one of these 2 years ago. I found one field fresh and on craigslist was an early 80s Chevy dually body/frame with Alcoa wheels for $600. Was going to do a frame swap. Ended up getting something else. I have a 56 F100 and an S10 chassis sitting beside it. Already bought 20 and 18" wheels for it. It's on the project list
Pics? How does it fit on that frame?

Nice truck. I suggest you drive the truck before making too big of plans for it. I live in land of old grain trucks. There are resons why they only go 55. You don't want to go 70 in that truck. Very squirrely at 55. Grain trucks got cheap around here because you have to have them inspected after changing hands and they will not pass a inspection. Grain trucks do not have the hight or hydraulic power of a dump truck. What most people do is put the old body on a newer frame. If you want a car hauler I would find a rollback first and put the older body on it. Don't mean to be discuraging.
I'm considering a cab swap on a 2000 3/4 ton i have in the backyard which is about 1 inch longer than that grain truck. F600 is 154 inch wheelbase and the 3/4 ton is 155 inch. I just cannot find the front track width of the F600 online anywhere. It fits on a 18' trailer, apparently.

I'm not sure yet since I haven't started on it yet. There has been a couple done on the internet though. I swapped a Caprice chassis to a 55 Buick several years ago so I'm a fan of frame swaps

I thought about a Dakota frame, early 90s, those come with rack and pinion steering.

Depends on the model#, the data plate will tell you the GVWR rating

If the option is available in your state/province, look into licensing as an RV, loophole around most truck regulations.

www.ford-trucks.com is a pretty good resource, although it isn't what it used to be user friendly-wise

What is the advantage of registering as RV over classic.?

In my area if you get it registered as an RV you don't have to get it annually inspected and with the classic/historic you usually have to sign something like this

"I certify this historical vehicle is owned solely as a collector’s item and is used only for historical club activities, parades, car shows, etc. and not for routine transportation."

RV avoids the whole CDL scenario. There have been cases of overly- zealous law enforcement considering a car hauler used to transport race cars, show cars, etc as a "for profit" enterprise which would technically require a CDL.

Also usually gives you a pass at scales, and registration fees based on gross weight.

Potentially cheaper to insure than a commercial truck as well

I have a 1991 International 4600 with a 16' flatbed on it. I would recommend finding a medium-duty truck junkyard and get an axle out of an old RV or step van. They should have some options with a 3.XX series gear set in them. Vanderhaags.com is a great site for parts.

I have had great luck with State Farm for insurance purposes. I pay about $250 for 6 months of full coverage insurance.

I wish you good luck as the big trucks are totally worth it.

Here another shot of the wheels. That's the best the owner could do. Look like 1 piece(hoping)
