Gear vendors overdrive may be another cheap(ish) way to go for getting a little more speed.

I though about gear vendors but...if those are widowmaker wheels, they need to go.. I will know for sure saturday if all works out. Will be on road for about 18 hrs round trip!

I've been reading for hours about these trucks and seems like the freightliner MT45 step van is what some have used for parts swap with best success.

I think modern underpinnings are a wise choice but I'd be curious to know what the ratios are in high/low with the rear end it has in it, if you get time to check it before you remove it.

2 speed rearend!
That's cool. I haven't seen one of those Eaton 2-speed motors in 25 years. Almost all of my Dad's medium duty trucks had 2 speed rears with Clark 5 speed transmissions. Even with a full load of milk, with the rear in low range, we never used 1st (granny) gear. We'd usually shift the rear to high in 4th (3rd to us) gear. Good memories.

I think that truck goes fast enough, at 55 mph it lets us have a real good look at it going down the highway.....:)

It'll be on the door tag...usually in the 6.xxs and 8.xxs in that time frame

As I recall, the wheels that are even inch diameters 17", 20" are split rims, and the half-sizes 19.5", etc are not
