Thanks for the offer, but it's not really an optimal gear for what I want to do.

but the carrier for the 3.23 is the 3 series carrier you need for the 3.42. Depending on what the price is that might be cheaper than the adapter to fir the 3.42 to the 2 series carrier

Being that I'm going to be using a Pontiac 455, I may be better off sticking with a high gear after all. It may be more economical to leave the 2.56 in the car and run the TH400 that I'm getting with the engine. I was stuck in the Chevy mindset with running a low gear and a 200-4R but why? I'll have all the torque in the world to get going without spending the cash to have the 200-4R built to handle it. The fact that it doesn't get driven too often really can't justify the extra expense to save a couple mpg's in the end.

It's not going to be a track car either so it's probably not needed.

you can go to 3.08 with the 2 series carrier in case you do want to make a change in the future. I'm running a 3.08 after I started with a 2.41 then I tried out a 3.42 which I didn't like..I'm building a 9" this winter so I have to check to see what ford has around that set up...I'll go slighter higher than 3.08 but never lower....

3.08 is what I was kicking around too but then I'm borderline between keeping a 3 speed or stepping up to OD and just running a lower gear. I guess it's really going to depend on what I cam choice I make and what rpm range I plan on living with. The car will see some highway driving so I want it to be 75mph friendly at extended periods.
