whenever I wanted to hear the cam in any of my cars I installed stock or turbo muffler's can hear the cam all day with those, and since I was not trying to squeeze the fastest et's of the highest hp #'s I didn't mind the slight loss on the ponies. Supposedly the wagon I have now has an R.V cam it came with car, but the car also came dual flowmaster 40's so I can't hear any kind of lope, or myself thinking for that matter

your definatly right on the thinkin part. I tend to listen to my head pounding and than start pullin the tylenol out after a few runs or a days worth of driving. :blam:

ok im opening this back up to the light. i got a cam for the motor, installed it, ran it and opened it up like i wanted it to. i made a few passes with it and the car ran a 12.82 at 112mph maxed out. if i didnt have the 4.11's id a got a better time. Anyway. I eneded up spinning a bearing and need to find a set of rods and a new crank any idea's?

Sorry to hear you spun a bearing. Who did the bottom end and how were the oiling issues addressed? Just curious because there are a lot of varying opinions on how to set up the oiling system on a 455 Olds.

yea it sucks, i got the new bearings for it until i was told that i needed a new crank, so i think the bearings i got are either gunna be a long shot to find the right size crank or ill have to have it milled unsure yet. as far as the oil issue, i know in high rpm that the oil sytem pulls all the oil to the top of the motor. but to compensate that i drilled out the back 2 oil return holes in the heads and block to allow more to pass. I put a high volume mellings oil pump and pick up on. thats about it. the block was done by a shop in indianapolis back in 2008. i put the bottom end together.

Very impressive for junk heads. I would look into Pro Comp heads and a Torqer single plain intake. You could step up 1.7 to 1 roller rockers and a cam with slightly more duration and a tighter lsa for mean sound and still keep throttle response.

thats what i was thinking as far as heads and intake. Now the pistons im a stick with those, they're flat tops with the valve relief but the crank and rods, im leaning toward a set from Jegs thats spose to be a big seller for guys with BBO. they're a crank and rod set made by Scat, but in order for me to get the right set i gotta do some measurements and in order for me to do that i gotta go 900 some miles to get the motor yet from my dads place, lol. as far as the rockers and cam, I like the cam i got but yes, bigger does sound better but ill look and see what i can come up with as far as those. this is a slow project right now. $ and time are my biggest factors and i have little of both, lol.

I would run from ProComp heads. Nothing but horror stories. They are cheap but you will pay for it later.

I will definately keep that in mind. I was doin some research and found out that 454's come out factory with 2.17 intake valves and like 1.70's exhaust. Hell i thought me runnin 2.05 and 1.90's were a pretty decent size. Now ive always been told that your power lays in the heads of the motor. for years ive been told that, and with what i have, it'll put ya in the back seat at half throttle. Was there a set of heads that Olds come out with that were a big valve set? I know alot of marine 455 have big valve heads but what about ones in the cars?

F,D,H, some C's(4 barrel intake had the big valves typically), some G's, K's and Ka (marine big valve and w-30 replacement head) and some E's. Either way you go with the stock head your only going to fit a 2.05 and a 1.90 valve in it so if it came stock with big valves or small valves is kinda irrelevant if your going to get them rebuilt anyway. Also keep in mind that all oldsmobile heads flowed within 5% of each other and to get more power from the factory all they did was increase compression ratio (different pistons). You can also mill an olds head on the head gasket side to increase compression ratio, just don't go over 180 thousands you'll hit the water jackets :blam: . http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/ofhed.htm#Heads
This link does give some good info on the general numbers and codes and what came with what. Good luck.
