Looking at Wilwood brake kits for the front but their listing goes from 79-87 then another one for 73-77. Looked at a couple other manufacturers and same thing. Isn't 78 the same thing as 79-87 ?? Makes no sense.

78 Gs were unique, as you suspected.
You can verify by compsring on the Auto Zone site.

Wow really? I didn't know that. What is all different? And which of the two designs is better?

seems like the spindle size is the only difference, calipers, control arm bushings and ball joints are the same but the outer wheel bearing and the rotor are different. I guess I'll have to swap in a 79 & later spindle to make thse brakes fit.

Looking further although the rotor is different the 78 uses the same wheel bearings and ball joints as the 73-77 which tells me the spindle should be the same. I wonder if the brake kit from the 73-77 would work ??

I checked my Hollander. The 73-77 left side PN was 329349, the 78 was 459751, the early 79 was 14008691, and the late 79 to 85 was 14012601 (something to do with a provision for a cotter key.

dont just look for 79 spindles, look for any 79-88 g-body they all interchange.
my 78 monte has the spindles off a 87 grand national, i did my own version of a big brake swap.

You can use the S-10 spindles too. 82-93 should be the same spindle as the 79+ g-body spindle.

Lots of cars use the same wheel bearings. That doesn't mean that the spindles are the same.
