If most didn't have it, I'd consider it rare. I've never saw one. I myself would consider the alum core supports to be pretty rare as well. Pretty neat seats too

I was impressed with how comfortable the front seats are. Mine in my Monte have new foam cushions and covers and I hate to say it but I think I like the GP seats better.

The 78-81 GP & basically all the 78-81 gbodys got the Oldsmobile high backs, the cutlass used that same basic style 78-88. I'm not sure why they were changed in '82 on all the other cars.

I've seen them in approximately 1/3 of the floor shift cars I've parted/or saw in the scrap yards.
Out of > 1 million Pontiac G body cars produced, I personally wouldn't call it rare.
It is a cool option to add if your car doesn't have it.
My first Grand Am, in 1978 had it, so maybe I've looked for it longer than some.
A friend of mine actually told me about it while we were out cruising.
I always try the shifter to check for the option. Sometimes they are too rusty to pull, plus I have plenty already.
Were they used 78-87 ? I know where several GP
Shifters are & will check them. They're all 81-87 though.
