Good afternoon,

I have a 78 Monte with a plain Jane 350/350 setup. Recently I had been bumping my car around to find TDC, and realized that the fusible links didn’t like that much.... before I realized it was the fusible links that had burned out, I replaced the ignition switch.

Outside of this, I’m really at a loss for why it’s not running. I’m getting spark at the cap using my spark tester.. spark plugs/wires/cap/rotor are new , fuel gauge is reading 6-7ish psi with a new pump and filter, so I’m really not sure where else to go from here because it’s not even stumbling, like it did before I pulled the long block and cleaned it up. I replaced the ground that

I removed the ground from the alternator bracket, and connected the negative cable to one of the starter bolts, to the body by the battery and ground the head to the body. Below is a video of what I’m getting...

if your fusible links burnt out by bumping the engine over I think you probably have an electrical problem. I would pull #1 plug and start over finding TDC on a compression stroke and make sure your rotor is pointing at #1

Even if I did it in pretty rapid succession? I had to do it quite a few times lol.

But I’ll defintely try that

Id restab the dizzy and go over the firing order one more time. Could be 180 off or crossed wire.

Your plugs are probably wet

Take one out a check

You would get a pop or some type of combustion noise even if the distributor was off

if they are wet hit them with some brake cleaner to dry them up

When you go to start it spray starting fluid in the carb dont touch the gas pedal and crank it

You need a helper. Run the timing light while someone else is cranking.

Your timing is off. And x2 with Turna's comment about the plugs being wet/fouled with gas.

Thank you everyone.. I appreciate the responses because this has been driving me nuts since last weekend.

I agree, I felt it was likely a timing issue but I’m going to check the plugs too— though it’s going to suck pulling them with the long tubes on it... I grabbed a timing light tonight, just gotta get someone who can come over to help.

The timing being off somewhere other than my distributor is one of my biggest fears. I forgot to mention I put on a double roller while I was cleaning things up but I lined things up perfectly (triple checked) before buttoning it up. The chain was stretched enough to cause issues.

Could your distributer got wet or moisture?
I really don’t think so but maybe. I’ve tried to keep it out of moisture as much as I can. I have another distributor I can try, if the other stuff doesn’t work.
