78 Pontiac Lemans

Yup, that's a 2GC carb. Last year they were used. You can tell by the choke flap. It is actually a very good carb and easy to work on. I would not change it. A hard lesson to learn is that they put 2 barrels on for very good reasons. With economy rear gears and small motors the 2 barrel works best.
We put one on a 267 we tossed in the old mans '78 Firebird when he thought the 250 that was in it tossed a rod. It did make it seem like it had more than 110 horses.

Recently came into possession of my grandfather's 1978 Lemans that he bought new in 78. Always garage kept, 99% rust free. I'm looking to clean this up and cruise around in it mainly. Not really looking to hot rod it. Came with a CSB 305 from factory. Not the most ideal power plant, but workable.

Any thoughts are appreciated on what direction I should take with this gem from the late 70's.

i went 383 stroker with my one owner, 30k mi.

First, I am not a Pontiac guy. But that 305 is a decent engine. The only issue is the valve stem seal which allows oil to seep into the combustion chamber and when first starting up, you get a puff of smoke. I have the same 305 in my 78 Camaro. That Rochester carb., that is on there is much better than the Rochester carb I have on my 78 Olds which has the 260 engine. Furthermore, the advantage of having a Chevrolet motor is there are more parts for this car, and if you do swap it with a 350 or a bored out 350, no one could tell the difference sizewise.

Depends on your goals. If you want to go 2 to 3 seconds faster, and have the money go for it.
