Welcome to the GBodyForum!
I guess Washington is "Brown Malibu Country". I too have a brown 79 Malibu that came from Washington. It now lives in AZ. $500 is a smokin' deal. Can't wait to see the progress you'll make on your new Gbody. If you're wanting to drive it around town and have fun with it, TH350/7.5 rear end will be fine. I put a TH350 in mine and have the 7.5 posi rear end (2.23 gears) and it is fine however, I am still using the 43 year old 305 with 108,000 miles on it. One step at a time and you will make your Malibu Yours!

Hell yeah when he told me 500 bucks I just want it gone I knew I found my "once in a lifetime deal" I couldn't not buy it! Do you mind telling me more about your rear end. making it a posi rear end or if it comes that way? and changing your gears. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to rear end build honestly. I want to drive it around town but also go on long cruises with my lady!

Nice score!!! But the duramax next to it caught my eye, is it an LBZ?

Welcome aboard Michael! I share everyone's sentiment. That was a good score indeed. Looks like you're going to have to lose the vinyl top in order to do some rust repair on the sail panel. Hopefully, that's all the rust there is. Some body damage as well. but hey, for the price, you can't beat it.

Fantastic looking car!!! If it isn't going to be a race car, keep the 7.5" rear but install a lower gear (3.42) posi from "quick performance" and find a 4-speed transmission. I love my 5.3L/4L60e with 3.55 posi, replacing the 3.8L/TH250 with 2.41 open!

not a race car but i want to go fast! I'm going to drop an LS2 in it build the TH350 (to save myself some money) definitely going to check out that 3.42 posi from quick performance! I still want to be able to cruise with my girl for long rides
