i would take a saws-all and cut out the trans tunnel, then use a spot weld cutting drill bit to remove the brackets, then i would use the cut out tunnel as a template, set it his malibu trans tunnel and use the holes provided by the spot weld cutter and mark the floor so he knows where to put the brackets. he will then also have the correct spacing and location of the shift cable hole too.If he can get them out without mangling them.
