8.5 code identification HELP!

AFAIK, there are no other identifying marks on a rear axle.

If it's out of a G body, really only the three possible origin vehicles. I think the Olds cars came std with 3.73 gear, so like I said up there, probably a GN....IF it is in fact a G body 8.5

I guess you could look for a casting date on the housing to narrow down the year it was produced, but I really don't get why it's such a big deal to know what it came out of.
