We have a TA Performance unit (cheaper than the Jegs SMH) We do need it and it works damn well.

The BOP 8.5 rear ends for 73-77 A bodies have bolt in axles rather than C clip axles. So the machining of the differential housing is slightly different. This may be why they mention it won't fit yours. But I believe all the 8.5 rears made for G bodies use C clips???

I already have a cover mounted to my 7.5" so we can do a straight trade so you don't have to worry about if a new cover will fit.

How do you keep that thing together with over 600 horsepower? I've seen people blow those to bits with half that.

That is the 7.5" in my Regal with a 355 SBC, my Monte with a BBC doesn't use a rear cover.

Gotcha.

I had a really nice 9 inch it was all Strange components, housing, aluminum center section, chromoly shafts and Wilwood disc brakes, but I traded it for a car. I wish I had just paid for the car and kept the rear.

My 70 Cutlass S is a good example. It is an 8.5 rear and with an aftermarket posi, 8.5 chebby 10 bolt 71-72 bolt in axles will fit, the 70 version anyways. The aftermarket posi is a modified Ford 8.8 unit. The cover has 12 bolts but only 10 on the ring gear, only one girdle cover is available but also the W27 copy cover. The W27 option was an ALUMINUM differential available in 1970 only, is rare and expensive to buy one. The middle ten bolt cover in Supercars listing WILL fit your 8.5 rear. Why Olds or GM as a whole did not keep the bolt in axles is stupid. Olds kept them through 75, I believe.https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...FjAOegQIDhAC&usg=AOvVaw2S9hF2sfUABCIXBgXieAGb

The G body 8.5" use C clips. The cover is slightly different on the 71-77 BOP axles but pretty sure it will bolt on and seal. If not, it is a shame one of if not the best GM rear doesn't have a girdle cover. The W27 is not a girdle cover but does allow extra oil.

This TA cover lists GN and GbodyParts also sells it for GN.
"Original Chevy 8.2"/8.5" 10 Bolt Rear End Girdle fits all Chevrolet and GM corporate produced cars and light trucks with 8.2" & 8.5" ring gear and 10 Bolt rear ends, including the Grand National "
