Hi folks,

I have an 81 Grand Prix that I have been working on for a little over a year now.
Finally I have it ready for the road but decided I wanted to play with the stereo.
I dropped an Alpine deck into the dash that I had and I'm not getting radio reception.
Thought maybe it was the antenna so I looked for it and can't find it.
Where was the antenna on an 81 Grand Prix? was it in the windshield'?
Where did it hook up to the windshield?
Is there a way to convert this to a fender or rear fender antenna?

Thanks.

Someone must know something?
Does no one know where their antenna is? lol

If its not sticking out of your right fender, then its in the windshield. you should be able to see two fine wires running up the center of the windshield and then across the top. If not, then someone replaced it with the wrong kind. Yes, they stink. always have.

MY 79 GP and my ex 81 also did as well.. My 85 has it on the fender, which i'm going to convert over to a power one.

Thanks guys.
looks like i need to do a conversion.
there are no lines in my windshield

I was wrong there are lines on my windshield.
Ive never heard such bad radio reception.

are you sure it's plugged in ? The windsheild antenna only had a small cable attached to it. It was connected to an extension about 18" long which plugged into the back of your radio. If not working it's not too hard to install the fender mounted unit once you remove the PS wheelwell

For sure it is plugged in to the back of the radio. I lost some skin doing it. Could be a little trickier checking to see if it is plugged in at the windshield. On my dash I have a removable centre speaker cover. Please tell me it plus in right there somewhere and all I merchant to do is remove the cover.

The connection for the windshield anteena on my cutlass is accessible from the engine compartment it will plug in on the firewall. Just look for a wire hanging out of the windshield. hope this helps

That sounds simple enough. Thanks.
