Hey everyone im new to this forum, and I found it will looking for a solution to my problem. I have an old 1982 monte carlo at my grandparents house (its covered in moss from sitting behind their house for about 12 years) my grandpa told me that he thought the transmission seal on it was broken.

I wanted to know what I would need to get it running again, I just love the way that old muscle cars sound. It is an automatic in case you might be wondering.

It will obviously need the gas tank dropped and cleaned out or a new one put in if it's sat that long. Then I'd change the spark plugs and wires, along with new fluid. Transmission seals tend to start leaking if they've sat, a lot of times when u simply start driving them, they will stop leaking or slow down. Being an '83, it probably has the 3 speed th-200 transmission that really wouldn't be worth fixing on IMO. If the leak don't quit, I'd find a good th-350 trans to put in it..direct swap and much better! Could just b the pan gasket leaking too? which you'd be changing the trans flud anyway and the gasket would cOme with your filter.

if it sat that long just pull the trans and put in either a th350 or go the 700r4 route
iyes i would drop the gastank (either have it boiled out and epoxy'd or just buy a new one)
FLUSH THE FUEL LINES WITH SOMETHING!!!!!!!
full tuneup (cap rotor wires plugs fuel filter air filter)
change the oil
remove the distributor and spin the oilpump even before you crank it

hate to see you blow it up before you get it streetable
