Been debating adding the vinyl woodgrain trim around the car once it's painted. Should I do it?

I do... But I also need the past four weeks pay from work...
So it may take a bit, but I am interested.

No big deal. I am wondering though, did you get laid off? If so, I hope you find work soon.

No, haven't been layed off yet... They might as well, so I can collect unemployment. I've still got my trivia hosting gig, but for only two nites a week instead of three like before, and I can work on the side for a friend who's starting up his own shop. But it'd sure be nice if my boss could get his sh*t together.
My boss is easily the worst business owner/shop manager on the face of the planet.
I actually left there last fall when they fell too far behind in pay, and worked two part time jobs over the winter to barely make ends meet. They asked me to come back in March, and I reluctantly did. I'm one of the few who has work to do, as straightening and polishing stainless doesn't really require anything but labor and patience, and most of the other projects need parts that we have no money for.
Good times...

I would talk to the local labor board. They legally can't make you work without paying you, and you should be entitled to unemployment, and your boss should be entitled to a hefty fine. You are not only out a paycheck, but also the money it costs you to go to work. After all, there are costs associated with having a job on the employee's side too. For those reasons, I would not go back there. If you do, you are just wasting your time and money doing so. Try delivering pizza in a middle income area. The money isn't wonderful, but it is better than a lot of jobs. I have done it for 14 years now, and it usually pays the bills and then some. If you wish to know the range of pay, send me a PM. I do not like to disclose it publicly.

They haven't been forcing me to work, I've just continued to do so while I could because I'd rather have him owe me money than not have any at all.
Seems more likely that starting monday I'll be staying home, cause I simply can't afford to do it anymore. I've got four bills to pay at the moment, and not enough bread to go around... I've been thinking of trying to pick up a delivery job, I'll have to look into it more. I can probably grab a few more nites of trivia as well.
Oh well, sh*ts stressful, but I refuse to let it bring me down. One thing I've got going for me is the ability to pick myself back up, and to still be able to make the best of things.
A good attitude and a sense of humor go a long ways in life. 😀

Well, I've had a little time to spend on the wagon lately, and I managed to get a few things done.

Yesterday, I was pretty tired from work, so I took on an easy job and decided to install the CD player and get that working. Thankfully somebody cut all the wires for the original plug-ins.
Once I got everything working, I vacuumed it out the best I could, but I'll have to do better, cause the damn car still smells like dogs.

Today I fixed a broken wire for my blower motor, and finally checked to see that the heater and everything works. The blower makes noise, and I'll probably end up swapping it out for another one I have laying on the shelf.
Then I peeled off not one, but two layers of window tint from the front windows. I never really realized how dark the windows were until there were some clear ones to compare them to. I'd like to leave the back windows tinted, but I'm unsure if it will fly with the local law enforcement...

Tomorrow, depending on how motivated I am, I'll be swapping out the saggy V6 front springs for the pair I snagged out of the '84 MCSS at work.
I have a pair of new calipers as well as hoses on the shelf that are supposed to be for the 442, but I'll throw them on the wagon instead. I'll just need to get the rotors turned, a fresh set of pads, and new shocks...
But since I don't have any money, I'll just put the springs in and let it sit...

Well, I didn't have the motivation to swap the springs today, but I was bored enough to take some pictures.

Here's a shot of my fancy stereo install. The two dash speakers are some Sony X-plodes that were in the '87 Cutlass I had/parted out. They're plenty good for being free. CD player was a $100 piece I picked up about four years ago now and had it in the Malibu wagon. The radio bezel I got on eBay for $1, plus $8 shipping... Then I just had to buy an install kit that I used four pieces of and threw out a bag full.

Edit: Took a better pic...

Well, I'm a tad disappointed with myself, as I didn't do a single thing to the wagon all weekend...

I did however fire it up, and pull it forward about 20 feet in the driveway so I could clean the concrete underneath it, since the truck and Caprice had leaked oil all over. Once I pulled the car up, I noticed something laying on the ground, and it was one of my starter bolts! It was always pretty quiet starting, but the past couple times it started sounding like it needed some shims... Guess I know why now...

I did have a half decent excuse for not working on it though, as this weekend was the annual "Back to the 50's" car show here at the State Fair Grounds in St. Paul, which had over 12,000 cars last year, and it grows every year. The show only permits vehicles pre-'64, and does not allow Mustangs, which I think is funny. Now shows like these tend to bore me to tears, as I can only look at so many '32-'34 Fords and tri-five Chevy's before my eyes start to bleed, so I don't bother going to the show. The real fun lies on nearby University Ave, where the show essentially spills into the streets, as participants, and just about every other car enthusiast in the area shows up to cruise around.
I saw 3 Monte SS aerocoupes, 1 GP 2+2, 4 Turbo Buicks, 2 Malibu wagons, 1 super nice '84 H/O, 1 rusty '86 442, several more LS and SC Montes, and a few El Caminos to give you the G-body sampler.
And the variety is unreal. I didn't take any pictures this year, but it's really a site to behold, as the traffic lines up for blocks, consisting of about 90% hobby vehicles. So I hung out down there on Friday and Saturday nite, sitting on the tailgate of my wagon and watching the cars cruise by.

I was going to go to the Back to the 50's show but had other stuff to do. I went up sunday for a twins game and 80% of the cars from the show that passed were actually driving in the rain  I was expecting a bunch of trailer queens. Might have to try and make it up next year....

Blake,

Hi --

I think that the ride hight of the wagon is GREAT -- why do you want to change the front springs? Just curious.

Thanks,
Fox
