'83 Cutlass Cruiser Build Thread

Been debating adding the vinyl woodgrain trim around the car once it's painted. Should I do it?

That's some collection of Cutlasses. I haven't seen anywhere near that many G-bodies in the local U-Pull-It yard. I maybe see one or two, maybe three.

Is this yard in the Twin Cities area? I may have to visit some of my relatives in W.St. Paul soon... and scour the yard for wagon parts.

Cool pics, man. It is a shame about that fastback 442. I always liked those cars.

The yard is called Rohner's Auto Parts, and is in Willmar, MN... about 2 hours west of the twin cities. It's distance from the city is what has kept such an excellent selection of G-bodies. All the closer yards are picked clean, and you're lucky to find one or two. There's also a lot of Regals, though not as many as the Cutlass's...

does any of those wagons have good rear weather stripping

Thanks Blake! I appreciate the information. It does look like the holy grail for G-body parts. I'd love to make it out there...but...

Keep up the good work on your Cruiser. It looks like it's been spared from heavily salted winter roads.

Another update...

Went to try and get some stuff accomplished on the wagon today. I got the car running for a while, and it was going good until it died and wouldn't restart. I'd been having problems getting it started, and figured it was my 7 year old battery giving up the ghost, but it turns out I'm not getting any fuel again, so I think the needle and seat are stuck again, not allowing the bowl to fill with fuel. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and rebuild the carb, as the carb had plenty of time to gunk up when the motor sat in the corner of my garage for 3 years after I pulled it out of the El Camino. Not to mention it was already showing symptoms of needing attention when the Elky was still on the road.

I was able to get the radiator opening braces I snagged at the yard installed, as well as the clean battery tray I got. I managed to get the windsheild wipers working, though turning them on also turns on about 6 lights in the dash, so I guess I have some chasing to do there.

I finally got my tax refund, so I ordered up new tires to replace the dried out junk that's on it now. I went with 235/60R15 and 255/60R15, the same combo that's on my 442. I was contemplating going with 275 in the rear, but elected not to. Now as soon as I can get the damn thing to cooperate, I can go get the exhaust put on, and bring it home. I also ordered up some parts for the 442, and can finally fix the intensely warped brake rotors on my Caprice...

Busy weekend ahead, hopefully the weather cooperates!

I voted for the woodgrain... I think the 3rd(?) would look good with the green paint, as poplar has some green tinting to it.

besides, woodgrain doesn't always have to look like stock...

IMO it may be a little over the top, but gives you ideas on other directions it could go....

yay for tax refunds! and that woodgrain looks awesome on that caprice

Got my tires today and mounted and balanced them after work.
I debated long and hard about whether or not to put the RWL facing out or in, and ended up going with the letters out. Didn't get a chance to wash the blue sh*t off though...
I'll get 'em on the car pretty quick here and snap a picture or two.
