83 Hurst Olds Trunk Strut?

The name DELCO adds to the restoration... thanks

you even have delco shocks..[/quote]

I agree that the trunk shocks are junk. I was going to switch over to those instead of the torsion bars that my '87 came with but figured there was likely a reason GM quite installing them in '81.
After replacing the worn out shocks in my '81 with brand new shocks, they still can barely hold up a stock trunk lid. The torsion bars never had a problem.

Now my dad's '74 Delta 88 Royale convertible has the mother of all trunk shocks/bars. If you hit the remote trunk popper it could launch a small basketball a 100ft. when the trunk opens.

Thanks, I have a set with brackets, as stated, mine could be a rebody years back... car was a frame off at some point, whoever did it, great job... except this...

I could use a front license plate braket (very tough to find, one just sold on ebay, 140$ new), also a front bezel set, mine has a chip, and during engine rebuild, cracked a piece of the plastc chrome on the bottom piece of the drivers side seat... argh, this stuff is about impossible to find. Other than this, I have everything, and it's all perfect or very very close.
I'll have 30k in the car, 16.5k purchase price... crazy huh, and the market tanked once I bought it. Either way, perfect dash, no cracks... 30k mile car, doing because I love the car.

Trunck shocks were discontinued in 81, early 82 because they were garbage.
Ive salvaged a few sets from Hursts people were parting since most are unaware that they're unique.

Do you have a complete set with brackets for sale? I'm looking to use it on my 78 Malibu. Thank you.

I believe there's a guy on olds power that's got some plate holders. wonder why they ditched the stock wheels on your hurst?

I have the stock wheels, just stripped them, these were on the car for the restoration, will complete the rims in a few days... need some argent silver, I believe that is the color for the lug insert area.
These cleaned up great, I probably will not clear the chrome, even though I want to, it looks good this way, I've seen the cars both ways, any suggestions?

$16k!!!!
Holy cow man... and not even a survivor at that, previous restoration...
I bet the speedometer was swapped out...

Your car was definately rebodied if you have the trunk shock setup.
Check the quarter wheel wells for screw holes for the wheel well trim...

Whoever restored this, and I do not know the car history... everything is 100% from "a or the" Hurst Olds. Rebody, I can live with, sheetmetal.. No problem. Guarantee the 31k miles is dead on, the car is too nice to not be. Motor and interior as well PERFECT, and any HO guy knows you just do not find all this stuff. I wish I knew the guy that restored it, the guy in FL said it was frame off, it shows... Rebody, agree with the info you have stated.
🙂

Why would someone do a rebody/frame off on a 30k mile car? That's what baffels me, not trying to rag on you but something is odd about this car.
A higher mile Hurst can have a nice interior and driveline since these were specialty cars usually owned by older people.
I've seen 104k mile cars that have mint interiors and drivelines but te paint is checked and faded.
Sounds like this car was wrecked or had bad rot...
Did you find out the production info from the H/O club or Al Manti to verify the VIN and find out the sequence number?
I've seen 11k mile or thereabouts Hursts go for around $14k quite a few times and that was back when the market was good in 2006/7...

Start a thread with the progress of the car, would really like to see before and after photos.

I sent you the info in a message. Honestly you got me '88, who knows, could have been hit in the rear or something? As for why, these cars were not great cars from the factory, 80's were horrible. Paint sucked on all of these. It was cracked and checked.
My guess, and this is total speculation, they were rare, as we all know... whatever was wrong with the car, the person that restored it, knew what he was doing. I'll post a few more pictures...The guy I had re-restore it, one of the best, it's flawless... we talked many nights and many stories as to what could have been... the torsion rods were a fact I found out later. Could obviously changed my decision, but then again, I doubt it, I didn't see many with low miles back then on ebay. This car has been an experience.

Here is the car after I bought it, paint was great from 20 feet, up close, typical, poor prep work.
Looks pretty good before I ripped it apart.
I have many restoration pictures. I'll post a few tomorrow or during the week.
