Hey guys, gearing up to put a 5.3 and 4l60e in my ‘85 Regal and have tons of questions but will start with this one.
I have a center console and shifter out of an ‘84 GN, also took the seats, etc. What do I need to do to get this shifter to work with the 4l60e as far as cables and brackets go? I know most guys use the later model floor shifter with the steps. This one is full range, meaning when you push the button it moves from park to low with no stops. I already welded the mounts for the shifter and console. Thanks for any help!

I think the 2004r or 700r4 linkage will work, might have to make a bracket to get the right angle but it shouldn't be too complicated.

I swapped a 4.8/4l60e into my 86 442 and retained the factory floor shifter. Here is how I did it:

I used a B&M shift lever:

......an fbody 700r4 shift cable:

.....and an fbody 700r4 trans bracket:

You have to modify where the cable snaps into the gbody shifter (it will be a few inches forward of where the 200r4 cable attaches). I don't have pictures of my setup......but I did something similar to the attached link:

Good eye. Yeah, not going to work worth a flip without that detent plate. The J rod and spring moves the detent tab to make you press the release button to get it out of park and put it in other gears and such.

I'm ASSUMING the shifter was all disassembled for painting? Or is that all you got? You won't have positive stops and one bump and you're in a different gear. No safety net to keep you going directly into reverse if you overshoot.

I’ll have to look for the rest of the parts, I’m sure I have them. I bought the entire ‘84 GN that someone unfortunately left out in a field. I got the seats out by just lifting them out as the car was so badly rusted. Took a bunch of stuff off it. I’ll post picks when I find the parts, does anyone know what cable will work?

looks like J-rod is in it needs to be turned 90* and a spring added.

G-body parts has 4 speed detent plates with a 3rd gear stop, makes you push button to shift to 4th. I have a shifter out I will get pics after work for ya

Pics would be great thanks. This isn’t the detent plate is it? Looks more like a shift indicator.
