Hi everyone, I was thinking it was about time I started a build thread for my 85 cutty. My name is Mike and I’m going to be a sophomore this year. im currently 15 years old and im probably the youngest member on this forum. I know I still have a year before I can LEGALLY get behind the wheel of a car, which is why im starting my build now so its ready for when I am.
History of my cutlass: My grandfather knew an old couple in my area who ran a funeral home, and when people died sometimes they indorsed items from the dead people. My grandfather is a plumber and was always doing favors for them so they paid him buy giving him an 85 cutlass supreme which in that time was in great condition. My grandfather sold the car to my dad for $1 because he wanted it to be my brothers first car, thankfully my brother declined because hes a ricer. So my dad kept the car as his daily driver for a while and then the paint and body started to go.
Stock:
Last summer we started taking it apart and getting it ready for paint, 1 year later and were still in that stage. Lol its difficult for us to find time to work on it because he works, I work..only to pay for my car, and then I had school in the school year. So now that its summer we can really dig in!
I have tons of pictures, but so far what we’ve done is:
Removed the vinyl top
Removed the interior
Removed chrome trim..and found a big rot whole underneath driver side rocker panel.
Removed front clip
Removed bumpers and fenders
Removed windows
Started sanding
Started patch panels, and body work
Started to clean trim pieces
Started to clean the new interior (blue bucket interior out of a salon)
Shopping for more parts
My Plans: this is going to be my daily driver so I don’t want to go too crazy with the engine, probably a sbc 350, 200r trans, with whatever posi I find.
So here are the pictures starting from the beginning up till now. SORRY IF THEY ARE REALLY BIG
Thanks for looking at my progress so far. Ill try to update frequently.
